Ok, so Im a Vodacom pre-paid customer and have been for years. Finally MNP will be coming out and I can move.

To tell you the truth I have been quite happy with Vodacom - though its pre-paid, so how poor can service really be when you dont need anything from them other than coverage?

In any case, the only reason I am moving is because I am quite anti-telkom and since Vodacom is 50% Telkom, I need no other reason to move.

I wanted to move over to CellC - "help the little guy out" kinda thing, but if I am not mistaken they are piggy backing off Vodacom? So if I go with CellC - I would indirectly still be helping Vodacom and therefore Telkom ;/

That leaves me with MTN, which I have no problem whatsoever with.

I am a small basically insignificant pre-paid user (who will also be getting another separate pre-paid number with the same SP) - but at the end of the day, every bit counts...

So what do you guys thing, am I "over-analysing" the CellC theory and should rather go with CC or am I right and I should go with MTN?

Sound reasoning IMO. Anything to stop the beast!! :D

Thus far, I am also going MTN when MNP comes.
Have been with Vodacom on contract basis for the last 6-7 years.
Haven't had any real problems with the contract, but been having bad service on their GPRS and 3G / HSDPA. Terrible.
MTN is being rated as being better, more stable and reliable.

Plus Vodacom appears to be ripping clients on new phones. On last check, last week, at a couple of retail channels, MTN was still cheapest on the N80.

I sounds like you are cutting off your nose to spite your face. Vodacom may contribute to Telkom's bottom line, but going through the pain and suffering of number porting just to get at Telkom who aren't going to care two hoots seems a bit daft to me.
Even MTN buy infrastructure from Telkom so no matter who you use you will be contributing to Telkom's bottom line.

Well yes, at the end of the day Telkom is at the top of the food chain and no matter who I go with, they will get a slice of the cake.

Thing is, if I go with Vodacom - they will get a bigger slice - so to speak.

I've noticed a lot lately that the attitude in the general society today is that of "I/You only contribute 2 cents worth anyway, so what difference is that going to make to them?". That is a terrible way of thinking.
Yes, true, alone it wouldnt even make the slightest of difference. However, take a few thousand people who think like me and take their 0.01% contribution elsewhere, and suddenly it becomes a painful 10% drop. (Of course, these numbers are just for example purposes :P ).

Its the all the little people who fight at the end of the day that will make the big difference.
Don't ever think your contribution is little ; it all adds up at the end of the day.

I want to goes upstream now. I'm with mtn contract now, and want to go to vodacom family topup. As far as I could see, on this tipe of contract, voda is the cheapest. Because voda charge R144.50 p month, and I get R135 airtime p/m, and a free phone. Mtn charge R190 pm, and I get R150 pm airtime, and a phone. I hate these "offpeak" minutes contracts, because I want to phone peak times, not when everyone sleeps. But thats my meaning. I must say mtn's gprs is better and faster for me than voda, but I really dont like mtn anymore.
