Hi

I am looking for a VOIP provider to become a reseller for. We have numerous clients who we provide VPN solutions to and have been using VOIP for branch to branch calls. I am looking for a honest reputable ITSP to provide me with good rates to local and cellphones.:)

Have you had a look at starting off your own? I would like to know what you need to do?

Is there a list of all the things someone would have to do?
Things like:

VANS licence
Directory Number Allocations
Hardware Service platform (AAA and SIP)
Who would be your partner ISP

Thanks

Hi, Just a quick bit of info. Vans licence applications have been suspended pending new Telecommunications Bill. If you providing pure IP you wont need one unless u interconnect localy.

Hi Amanjee,

We only provide services to resellers. Wholesale/Bulk VOIP (SIP/IAX2) is one of the services we provide.

Currently we only have 3 South African resellers aiming at very specific markets. (mostly international termination)

Our rates are EXTREMELY competitive, with first world country rates starting out at about 0.16 ZAR per minute.

As for phone calls to South Africa, there is a 500ms delay approx which is unavoidable. With rates cheaper than you will get (assuming retail rates) using any one of your telecom providers.

If you would like to test the service out we can set you up, sign an NDA and provide you with pricing.

Let me know if you're interested. If you're after some more info on the service we provide or our VOIP product please shoot to http://www.linuxrulz.com

For a firstime poster, who doesn't have a proper webite (selling services, giving contact details, have track record, etc), why do we need to "trust" you?

Regarding the "trust" issue, website, etc. We are re-designing our website as we are busy integrating a brand new converged communication solution using Outlook as single interface on an Exchange 2007 platform. The functionality and the fact that it is the only one in the world available makes it amazing. It is already being piloted in London to test efficiency. So I apologuise for the inconvenience. The site will be up soon but again if you need more info, please contact me miquette@ysl.co.za

If you are looking for VOIP solutions, just beware of VOX. Once you paid, and start to get issues, it becomes a nightmare to get answers from them. Nobody seems to know what is going on over there. I think they need a few more years to grow their systems - at this stage, it really isn't worth the money, and if you are a reseller, they leave you with a red face more than once in front of a client.

Hi There
a good suggestion would be WebCall.

They have been around for a while and they make use of Porta's software, which comes highly recommended by international ITSP's and hardware manufacturers for VOIP.

visit them @ http://www.webcall.co.za

I wrote a blog about this (check it out here : How to be your own VoIP provider: http://www.whichvoip.co.za/index.php?option=com_blog&view=comments&pid=9&Itemid=6). There are so many options available to you, i would maybe suggest looking at a provider that best suits your customer, viz an Otel / TelFree may not be suitable for a Corporate where you are up against IS or ECN that dont charge a line rental... but ECN will only look at bills of R40+ or refer you to their Wholesalers; iConnect / Centracom, etc.

If you want to check who offer what, go to WhichVoIP.co.za (www.whichvoip.co.za) - also if there are any Providers that want to participate, please PM me as well.

very good article, brief and precisely to the point. well written.

FYI: O-Tel's clientelle consist of 95% resellers.

Of those resellers, 90% sells to corporates, which includes SME, Medium and large corporates, with some government departments, political parties and recently a few JSE listed companies. The other 10% sell to estates, tourism sector and some resell the services to affiliates.

The other 5% of O-Tel's turnover derives from the recently launched retail product/service called CheapCall.co.za found at http://cheapcall.co.za
Although it only occupies 5%, being one of the fully automated service and first of its kind in South Africa, it is expected to be a hit. No more USD conversions and the voice call reaching USA before coming back to SA!

O-Tel does not have an Affiliate program, only wholesale to resellers who rent the infrastructure on a Pay As You Grow basis. So no commitments, no contracts, just sell and grow as you wish.

Every company has to have a strategy. Those which seems to be too good to be true, is often short-lived. You are looking for a long term relationship with your client who will be giving you recurring income. Choosing the correct partner is extremely important.

Take your time, ask a million questions, trial the service, then cross the bridge. Any bona-fide VoIP whoelsaler/provider should be licensed and provide you with the necessary info and trials without hesitation.
