MTN wants to be first for customer service

MNP has got them all jumping to various degrees.
End of the day the consumer will benefit and vote with their feet. All good!

A question a little off topic, what is the situation with number portability in the fixed line market when Neotel launches?
Should this not be a requirement when the new operator launches and something that we as consumers should be campaigning for?

How about being the first to not rip your customers off by dropping your prices

Question on MNP, it relates to the off topic discussion and the service discussion.

I know that you can keep your number if you move from Cell Company to Cell Company, but what if you want to move between the Service providers? When my contract is due, I want to stay with Vodacom but I want to move away from my Provider (Vodacom Service Provider/ vodashop), because their service sucks in the town I live in, don't know how Nashua or Autopage rate (out of town), but I would like to have the option available. Will I be able to do that?

When comparing service we shouldn’t just look at the big players (Voda, MTN etc) but their service providers too!

Have a look at www.neotel.co.za FAQ.

Fixed line MNP is imminent...
Yes, it does hint that you can keep your landline. However this may not be as straightforward as the cell networks. Landline numbers are locked into the local exchange so you could probably take a Rondebosch number to another Rondebosch address, but not to Bellville. That's how I understand the system anyway.

They planned to reach this pinnacle by doing three things: being first for customer service, offering superior financial returns to their shareholders and becoming the employer of choice in this sector.

MTN has a long, long way to go before they offer acceptable, let alone good customer service. In my experience, their service is equally bad, if not worse than Telkom's.

Good luck MTN.

I just spent about an hour at an mtn shop. Their service sucked. It was really really bad. The person would not accept that it was mtn's problem. They just said it was my problem most of the time. Oh and to phone the mtn service centre line from a normal telephone is charged at standard rates. Last time i phoned them i couldn't get through AT ALL. Mtn has screwed up every little thing with my contract.

Sorry for the rant.

If MTN wants to lead the pack it seriously needs to sort out its call centre. One reason I do most of my data work through Voda (and now Virgin) even though my local MTN signal is better, is that I have found it impossible (no, not slow, I said impossible!) to get through to their helpdesk! Last time my cellphone battery gave out after an hour of being on hold. Customer contempt or what?
