I received a letter today from the TV licenses (audience services devision) on the sale of TV-tuner cards. I would like to know if any other dealers received a letter like this?
Dealer License
Any retailer may not sell television receiving equipment(including tv tuner cards or computers fitted with such cards) unless such retailer is in possession of a valid television dealer license. The annual license fee for a dealer license is R 225.00
TV-tuner cards
Any prospective purchaser of a television set(including a TV tuner card or laptop/personal computer fitted with such card) must be in possession of a valid television license. In order to validate a prospective purchaser's television license, a retailer may call their toll-free Validation Call Centre.
Monthly registers(Summary of Sale)
A retailer must provide the SABC with a written summary of the number of television sets(including TV tuner cards or computers fitted with such cards) sold during the previous month, even if that number amounts to nil, within 7 days of the end of each calendar month.
Annual audited statement
A retailer must provide the SABC within thirty days of the end of each licence year with an annual audited statement reflecting the number of television sets(including TV-tuner cards or computers fitted with such cards) sold during the previous license year.
Penalty for non-compliance
A retailer who sells a television set(including a TV-tuner card or computer fitted with such card) to nay person who is not in possession of a valid television license is liable for a penalty of between R 3000.00 and R 10000.00 for EACH set sold.
