Forgive me if this is covered elewhere, but can anybody explain Virgin Mobile's prepaid data offerings to me? Their website is cute but totally opaque

You buy a sim, preferably a 128k sim if you are going to use it with a data card. You dial 123 and ask them to activate data and there you go. Prepaid data at 50c/MB.;)

One more thing, you have to recharge your sim every 90 days otherwise you can not connect any more. After 120 days since your last recharge they say you will lose your connection permanently. At the moment the smallest denomination you can recharge with is R50.

You won't be able to use data unless you have activated with a chargeable call. I don't think there is a specific 'activation' for data. Once you connect, you will be asked automatically for the settings to be sent to your phone. Also on some phones, a dedicated Virgin menu is added, from where you can select settings and other things.

And your credit will be zeroed:eek: You can ask Virgin to put your account on hold though.
