I hope we get DX10 graphics cards in AGP!!

Well, I've decided to hang in there with my current nVidia 6600 graphics card (I know it's crap, but at least I can play COD2 at 800X600) till the DX10 cards get released.

My big worry - will there be a DX10 AGP card?
 
Might still be one or two, but they will just be more expensive and run slower if they are even released.

I'd rather just upgrade to a PCI-E mobo, you can get them from around R600, it will be worth it. I guess you could just wait to see if there are any htat are worth it, otherwise upgrade. NO point upgrading to PCI-E now and forcing yourself to buy a new card when you will need DX10 soon.

sorry to tell you this but agp is dead man

so start saving for a new board :)
 
Well he is right unfortunately :D I have a nice AGP card at home that I can no longer use (failed mbs forced me to upgrade to pci-x) so that's the way life goes I guess.
 
ya they come up with silly stuff to make you buy

like pci e is no better than agp

but they make the pci e cards so much cheaper it makes sense to go buy a new board
 
yes pupa i know that but not a single game uses even as much as 8x agp yet

so whats the point

i dont know if any game will use as much bandwidth as pci or agp has to offer

So, the AGP 8x bus isnt getting saturated at all. I bet if there was a 7950GX2 AGP card it would perform the same on a AGP board that similar to a PCIe one...
 
I consede that PCIe delivers more wattage through the slot and it makes SLI possible and is usefull for other types of card, if they would just finally become more wide spread...
 
AGP vs PCI-e is not about bandwidth only, infect bandwidth was never the real issue. It's how AGP interacts wit the CPU and the rest of the system that's a problem.

PCI-e provides bi-directional communications of equal bandwidth up and down. This is not the case with AGP where you have to use SBA which is only 8-bits wide. PCi-e provides up to 75watts of power as said earlier. PCI-e allows multiple links to the system (hence Crossfire/SLI) PCI-e also provides more useful bandwidth than AGP.

PCI-e also offers better signaling for the same amount of traces or less even.These are but a few of the advantages of PCI-e.
Lastly, GF8 GTX uses 2xPIC-e 6pin connectors. On AGP you'd need three at least!!!

Your card is not a representation of the standard and interface. AGP was good while it lasted but now it's arcane and must leave us. Its just that some of you are holding the rest of us back. New games must refuse to work on AGP cards and BSOD! :P :D

Yeah after all everyone can afford to upgrade every time something becomes standard :rolleyes: :p

Why? there is a lot of hardware and Software, including games, that could still run it for the next few years! Not everyone is an upgrade junkie or technology freak! :D
