Best Gaming PC for under R7000

I'm not at my work PC with all my pricelists, I'll put something together later this afternoon, but I'm sure people will be coming up with suggestions in the meantime...

amd 3800 dual core
1 gig memory/2 if you can afford it but its become expensive
7600 gt
80 gig sata 2 drive
decent board nforce if possible
17" hann g monitor
dvd writer

super put a pc together for 7k if you can get a lcd then get it

dont buy intel unless its conroe

The priority of core items in the mid-range (5,000 - 8,000) are:

  • Gfx card (starting with a 7600GT, or else a 6600GT at a stretch)
  • RAM (starting with 1x1Gb DDR400 from and reasonable brand and adding a 2nd matching stick later)
  • CPU (you should be OK with a 2GHz 3200+ AMD socket-939 or equivalent Intel)

You should be fine with a 120Gb or 160Gb SATA300 disk (noting that Seagate's 80Gb and 160Gb units were slightly faster than the 120). I'd start with an 80Gb now, then save up for a second one and another Gb of RAM.

do not buy an intel unless its conroe

there was no equivalent intel to the amd's

conroe or nothing

gaming = amd or conroe not p4

never had any problems with them myself. And I've bought loads of pc's from them. So it's up to personal choice I guess

CRT's are higher quality
LCD's are thin and take up less space, but less quality (IMHO)

yes i agree with to a degree but if you run your lcd at native resolution it looks almost as good

just 1280 x 1024 is a bit hard on my eye

but for gaming, my lcd kicks the crap outta my old 19" crt

AMD 3800+ (2.4GHz) Socket AM2
1GB DDR2 667MHz
Asus nForce 570 Motherboard
Asus Geforce 7600GT with 256MB DDR3
17" Samsung CRT
DVD writer
Case
keyboard and mouse

Wish it could be better specs, but damn rand drop and high memory prices ruin everyones fun
