The commissioning of the US$200 million Eastern Africa Submarine Cable System (Eassy) has now been fixed for October 1, 2008.

But Kenya swiftly expressed concern at the new date, saying the project was take-off was delaying. The project was originally to start next year.

A month ago they said they're going to start building the EASSY cable in the first half of 2008 then and now they're saying 1 October.
South Africa's corrupt government decides on a delay and Africa has to suffer.

Mbeki can shove his kum-ba-ya NEPAD up his ass.
 
How many times has this been delayed now? I doubt this project will be completed pre-2010 in time for the world cup.
 
Its comical really, and African governments wonder why this continent cant better itself.

Kenya would not pullout of Eassy but would continue to explore the possibility of building an alternative fibre-optic cable connection, Ndemo said.

Interesting, so their own cable not a certainty yet?

He also said Kenya would not sign the Policy and Regulatory
Framework for NEPAD ICT Broadband Infrastructure protocol until a clause on Inter-Governmental Authority is removed.
