A bit dramatic in my opinion. Being a superpower doesn't come cheap... Especially trying to stay there...
The funny thing however is that civil unrest is eating away the power of their leadership. The US will fall at some point and most likely China will take over as superpower. Then you will see some rivers of tears around the Western world...

There is allowed to be more than one superpower at a time. China and India are largely considered to be the next to join the ranks.
Besides - dissatisfaction in the current administration should end in about 826 days.
