Sentech to increase MyWireless speed

Hmmm, if Sentech can offer 1 Mb for less than iBurst are charging then I might actually look at moving.

I think it's time for iBurst to do something..... They used to be the fastest and now if Sentech does this they will be tie for last place in speed....
 
What about those of us stuck on classic, does the the speed increase apply to us?

Everytime I read the word "stuck" I just laugh.I know the feeling mate.I still have until August next year on the MyWireless Classic 256 package
 
This increase in speed on its MyWireless Flexi package may be what’s needed to make Sentech more competitive in the wireless broadband arena.

I seriously doubt it, by canning MyWireless Classic [that had much higher caps], all that Sentech is doing is trying to compete with Vodacom & MTN in the considerably mobile and low-cap range of the market, but MyWireless doesn't have anywhere near the coverage that Vodacom's 3G|HSDPA has, even iBurst SA has much better coverage compared to MyWireless [which has been around almost as long as ADSL has], which means that MyWireless is still not a mobile data service...

IMO Sentech has shot its MyWireless service in the foot one too many times, and continues to lose existing & potential customers to competitors, perhaps it would be better if Sentech just cancelled MyWireless Flexi as well, and concentrated on more important things - like supplying national wholesale bandwidth & being ready & willing & able to deliver for 2010...:rolleyes:

Ja, a bit late this.

The problem is that they are so far behind. Even if they give a 1mb service, then their prices are still higher than iBursts, and with much better coverage/expansion from iBurst who would bother with Sentech after all thier bad press before?

Also, the article says some test accounts showed up to 100% improvement, and that is all they can boast it seems. 100% up on their current offering is 512kb, half of 1mb.

Does Sentech have market share that they can restructure & still be more expensive for an inferior service (IMO).

How will the doing away of "My wireless classic" affect the job market & the jobs specifically at Sentech? I would think that the revenue lost alone will be a major financial loss for Sentech. I feel sorry for those who might possibly be laid off because Sentech wishes to "align' its service with the market.

I would think that Sentech should rather maintain (redundant now I suppose) its My Wireless classic package with users & just cap everyone at say 10Gb & then charge their absolutely market related R1-00 per Mb (:D ) for over & above use, and only if purchased, much like a DSL service provider.

Oh well.. will be interesting to see how well Sentech does in the next few months.

I think this is precisely why they are killing the classic packages. They want to compete on speed without the exposure of the significant increase in data that will be downloaded.
 
With Neotel climbing into the Ring next year (with management who are experienced with bandwidth provision in the third world "India") whats the bet that Sentech will be the first casuality of this little turf spat.

sentech should stick to their knitting "National Television Signal propagration" using ALL technologies and at least try and do that well.

The problem with Sentech MyWireless is not the speed or the technology - its with Sentech.
They can't even provide half decent 512 and 256 connections - so I don't see how a speed increase will solve their core problems. No matter the speed, the company still suffers from a lack of technical expertise, a total disconnect with subscribers through mistreatment and poor customer support, and shockingly poor mismanagement.

Whats more laughable is that the government insists on ploughing hundreds of millions of taxpayer cash into a company that so clearly is an absolute failure.

Say no more...! The following from my recent Sentech MyWireless (256) cancellation instruction-

"[...] Reason for cancellation:
1. Ongelooflike swak en onbetroubare diens.
2. Sekerlik die heel swakste inbelsetrum op aarde.
3. Onkundige, onbetrokke, onbehulpsame personeel (Slegs twee uitsonderings: Mev Adele Mannell – sedertdien uit diens getree, en Dr Michelle Potgieter.)
4. In 28 maande is daar 246 stukke e-pos tussen Sentech en my gewissel. (Gemiddeld twee per week.) Op nie een van my probleme het ek ’n volledig bevredigende antwoord/oplossing ontvang nie. Op ten minste 41 e-posse het ek GEEN ANTWOORD ontvang nie.
5. Vir meer as R16 000 was die gemiddelde gekombineerde op- en aflaaispoed oor ’n tydperk van 28 maande 4,6Kb/s. Ek beskou dit as diefstal. [...]"
 
Sentech going down

How will they manage 1Mbps if their network can't even handle the current offering. These guys give a new meaning to the phrase "never say die". Why don't they just give up after shooting themselves in the foot once too often.

You know, now that the *cough*"news"*cough* of Sentech trying to at least get onto the same field as the competition (in terms of base speed at any rate) - whom, it appears, are on the move themselves to biggerbetterfastermore (speed and caps), I wonder if the recent utter borking of the basestations has had anything to do with it? ..you know, this whole base stations being upgraded to newer firmware that freaked out everyone's (who are still left) modems and made getting connected so difficult?
