Hi Guys,
I hope there is someone who can help here. I bought a vodacom data connect card (cash) a couple of weeks ago and am very pleased with the speed, connectivity etc, although R2 per MB is killing me cause I just can't help myself when surfing and always seem to be opening images, videos etc. So this morning I got a 128k virgin sim card. Its all set up and ready to go (and works to make phone calls etc). I put it in my data card to see if I could figure it out, but I can't get it to work. If anyone could help, i'd very much appreciate it.
Cheers,
Nick

Hi Sean,
thanks for your response. What is APN and where can I enter it. I was trying to get connected using the vodacom version 7 dashboard software, but I can't work out how to use it with the VM sim card. It works with VC sim card fine.
Cheers,
Nick

I do not know any thing about the VC dashboard.
Try sending this to your modem in the modem intialisation string.
at+cgdcont=1,"ip","vdata","",0,0

Could your Voda card be one of the dreaded locked ones? Does it work OK with MtN??

ok, i've done that, still not working. Any other ideas? It's really annoying knowing I could be surfing at 50c a MB instead of R2 a MB.

Err..do you need Virgin to send the settings to you for that particular data card. I don't have one so just a guess. You can set them manually.
Check out the following sticky.

In GPRS phones there is a menu on the device or software for changing:
APN, Username,Password etc..
Do you see this anywhere?
All about APNs.

Is the card working now.
I have just had a similar problem with VM. I had to make a chargeable call to get the 2nd half of the settings.
It new SIM is now working on my 3G MTN card.
If you can not setup the initialisation string via the modem the try it via Hyper Terminal.

I have got the NEW VM SIM working.
I had to go via the hyper terminal to setup the modem.
Query your modem in the control panel/modem setup.
check what cdgcont is set to.
