A 50-year-old Johannesburg man has shot and killed at least one suspect after armed hijackers attacked him in the early hours of this morning.

Police say three robbers attacked the man in his driveway shortly after midnight, as he arrived at his Saxonwold home.

They ordered him out of the car but he managed to wrestle a gun from one of the robbers and shot him killing him instantly.

The police's Sefako Xaba says the other two fled in the car.

Oh damn, he only got one and the others still got the car... :(

Your life shouldn't even be at risk in the first place, blast all the criminals away!!!

If they're dead, they cant bother anyone else again...

Good for this fellow. I am also tired of this BS of victimhood the government and the police are preaching.

I also told my wife, the day they hijack me, I am not giving my car over without a fight, if I bite the bullet, so be it. Its time the criminals start fearing us law abiding citizens

I am sure your wife will appreciate it when they bury you.
Did you even think it throught before making this rather idiotic declaration ???.

You're spineless. We need to fight criminals. If no-one gave up without a fight, then criminals would think twice. This man fought back, and the criminals ran. That's admirable... and food for thought.

You know what, I dont need to justify myself to you, because of your new south africa, innocent people are forced into these situations

True but the problem is as soon as you're hijacked your life's already at risk.

Forget about it Gothan, some folk like tibby recon we, as regular citizens must just turn a blind eye and lie down and cower in the face of criminals.

I personal am just waiting in excited anticipation for the bastard that breaks into my house, he’ll k*k!

Don’t fear a criminal!

Precisely! Since when did we become a country of victims? Hell this whole political correct world is breeding a generation of victims

And testosterone reigns.

Here's where my ideas diverge. I want to be able to defend myself. I don't want to have to, and I certainly won't be waiting with eager anticipation.

I am pleased to see that there are others who won't just stand down though. :)

Its not suppose to be a p!ssing contest. Its just that people are getting fed up, and they have a right to. And instead of assuming the fetal position. You stand your ground. If someone thinks he has the rights to come and steal from you, or intent harm on your or anyone of your family. Then you have to right to physically stop them

Ja the “excited anticipation” statement is most probably not the best use of words but what I mean essentially is that I won’t back down.
My brother once told me about how he was frowned upon by his mates for kicking a guy’s ass that was video taping their girlfriend’s skinny dipping at a party (innocent chick fun until a guy went to the pool area of the house to perv). And he told me something that stuck with me, that;
“The one thing I know is that when some guy comes into my house and tries to rape my wife; at least I won’t be the guy that just sits there and lets it happen!”

Protect all that is dear to you, aggressively! It’s animalistic to its basic instinctual core, but that is possibly the best way to deal with some one that is little more than an animal who allows no room for negotiation.

Well I prefer being alive and dying of old age with my two kids and wife at my bedside than trying to be a hero ... if that makes me spineless then so be it.

A car or my wallet or cellphone or laptop is not worth taking the stupid risk.

But if you want to do something "brave" and "fight back" at these fellas then become a police reservist and then take them on with the proper training and attitude.

Don't know if I got this right or wrong but when Leitmotif spoke about "fighting back" he was refering to the situation a victim finds them self in, not a police reservist!

Name me one case where police were on time to prevent a murder. Just one. How about a rape? No? Okay, then surely a hijacking. Hmm. Strange, that.

Police are for after the fact. You should be able to protect yourself before or during. The guns of the people who legally carry them will keep you safe, simply because a potential criminal doesn't know that you're not carrying.

The 'name one instance' argument is weak, and I know it. I'm leaving it there because it does highlight the fact that there are thousands of criminal acts committed in south africa, and yet no public record of police preventing these same acts.
