Avg virus

I have a question,this will be very difficult to answer.
I have been using avg for a very long time now.I have no problems with it.
Well i used norton to,but i uninstalled it about a year ago,as avg was still tops for me.
What i want to ask is norton the number one ram eater out there or is there others to
and what do you think uses the least resources on any given pc.(virus program that is).

Sorry if there was in a thread already like this some where in this fast forum,where a person can get lost.
 
I can't tell you which uses the least resources but I find AVG very light. I used to run Norton which was like encasing your processor in treacle.
 
AVG uses the least resources by far!

I use a combo of AVG and zonealarm and never have issues with my computer being slow because of them ;)
 
Norton is only good for trashing.


...I also use AVG and zone alarm.

I also use AVG with Zonealarm. I've never been disappointed by them!

oh, and stay away from THE NORTON

I've been using AVG since 2004 and I've never had any problems with it. To my knowledge, it has the 2nd best detection rate in the industry. NOD32 takes 1st place. But you have to pay for it and AVG is definately the best FREE antivirus available.
 
i use NOD 32 proudly :) and some firewall called sysgate that ive become used to now..........any firewalls that are ahead of the rest by some margin?how good is sysget compared? anyone know?

Any1 using Kaspersky-Antivirus.2006? I have tried Panda Titanium as well and must say it detected MANY infections none of the others programs, including Bitdefender and AVG detected. I have also tried McAfee Small Business Antivirus (available to Standard Bank Internet Banking customers for free). Was not to impress, relatively low on resources, but I often had trouble to update it. As you can see I have tried several programs and can't seem to find "that happy" one. According to some sources Kaspersky.Antivirus.2006 tested as being top of the line at the moment. (but that always depends on who does the testing doesn't it).
Am trying Nod32 (trial) at the moment on my main pc, Bitdefender 8 (free) on my laptop and I am almost to shy to admit, Norton 2005 system works with AV, on my gf's. I have used Norton for quite some time and regardless of being a resource glutton have grown use to it and have had very little problems, if any, with it. (Untill I decided to try Panda and found ..... Sure you know where this is going....)
Anyway back to my original question - Any1 using Kaspersky.Antivirus.2006? Comments??

Now would you believe this. Just tried the firewall test and it failed. I have actually previously tried the same test when I was using Norton and my systems didn't leak. Must admit though, at the time I have being using Norton for some time and had it tweaked quite well. Am downloading ZoneAlarm at the moment....
 
I see AVG has brought out a companion anti spyware scanner as well.

My AVG is popping up and telling me that 7.1 is being discontinued in Jan and being replaced with 7.5 - Let's hope AVG isn't getting more resource hungry.

Having used Norton/Symantec I can definitely vouch that they are a resource hog.

I've been using Zonealarm since 2001 and I definitely wouldn't trust anything else.

lol Best thing about Zone Alarm is that you can stop various parts of Windows like Media Player from connecting to the internet. :p
 
...but beware of mixing ZoneAlarm, WindowsUpdate and a clueless user .... :eek: :rolleyes:

For me a dedicated firewall like SmoothWall and AVGFree on the workstations work just better.

The new version is simply just an upgrade opf the detection rates and features. If you read "what's new" in AVG 7.5, you'll see there that it's actually MORE resource friendly than the previous version.

So no need to worry there readheadfan. ;)
 
Guys so there we have it straight up.avg is tops.The people have spoken
All those guys who use avg put your hands up in the air.and say....o not you damn it.

Okay Okay I will admit ZoneAlarm is not for in-duh-vidials, but there none of those on this forum, are there?


Good to hear AVG 7.5 is resource friendly - maybe I'm just getting too cynically living in the land of Telscum :rolleyes:
