Hmm, haven't used VM for a while cause it's so darn slow. Thought I'd use up my last R10 tonight before ditching them.

Lo and behold, now it seems they don't want to let me go. I've used about 5 MB today and payed only 20c. I disconnected several times and also switched my phone off and on. Still the same.

On the speed side, also noticed if I open say 4 links in Firefox (almost) simultaneously almost no data comes through. But as soon as I hit the stop button on 1, maybe 2 tabs, the link comes "alive" again and the remaining 2 suddenly opens quick-quick. It is as if my connection gets shaped to death if I open too many pages at once.

Oh well, as long as it's virtually free, I will see how long it lasts. But, oh, the speed of HSDPA lingers... :)

Virgin internet certaintly less than perfect, and sometimes frustrating, but for the time being, they've got me on board.

I received R50 free airtime for no apparent reason yesterday. I also get undercharged regularly. You wont hear me complaining, though. :)

Yes i also got R30, for what? Shouldnt you only recieve Vrewards at the end of the month? I hope that isnt my vrewards becuase i'm due more than R30.

.....and besides, I've spent that R30 already.....

Maybe the outgoing CEO was rather pissed when he got the boot, so he sent a virus to the virgin center that would credit all of us... Thanks mate.

They are still doling out last months VRewards - or is that maybe from the month before? They're doing it piecemeal because the system won't handle a surge, just like their internet LOL..
Today and last night has been bad bad bad. As Ajax said, if you open more than a few pages it bombs out. Download speed was less that 1.6kb/s also. I tried now and it started off at 5 or 6kb/s, which looked better, then after a 1/4 of the way through the d\l it dropped to 1.65 again. Aaaarg!

I don't have a problem with my billing while browsing on my phone via opera mini, I get billed accurately , but when I connect via pc my connection is virtually free (eg. 50Mb @ ~10c!), I'm not complaining though

But my connection does cut out now and again as you mentioned

Why are you complaining?!? I LOVE the VM billing system - I've had free GPRS since yesterday. They REALLY don't seem to be in it for the money :D

And I thought I was going crazy.

I got my 128k VM SIM today, along with the R50 included airtime. I've been surfing for hours, and have used up about 20MB of bandwidth. If I do a *101# to check the balance, it's still R50!

LOL, Amazulu! I've done Windows Update, downloaded the new IE and Firefox, updated Adobe, now I don't know what else to download. I did about 100 MB this morning for R1 :D

If these guys were to bring us 3G speed, they would absolutely clean up the broadband market in SA. The rest of the moegoes in the game would have to rely on those contracts for revenue.

Maybe we should petition Richard Branson and tell him to get excited about broadband in SA - its a market that is SCREAMING to be taken!

You guys should have kept quiet. I mean if they dont want to charge us ...
It seems that they're charging now though!

Virgin knows what goes on.... Just like Vodacom & MTN. They know there are loopholes and such.....

I am not getting charged :D
It wouldn't surprise me if they do this deliberately to get new customers.

@Boodles - I am not doing ANYTHING to exploit loopholes. I am merely browsing and downloading as per usual with my 6680. I haven't changed a thing. If they can't/won't charge me, well what can I say.

loopholes, and such........ @ajax - yours is the such part...

What loopholes? I'm just using the normal GPRS settings I got from VM and it's virtually free. I get charged R1 when I connect and am refunded with 99c when I disconnect. I've downloaded about 50MB today for about 5c. It's still free.

I hear the VM data network is back online again after today's downtime, but I still can't connect. Can anyone confirm whether it's still free?

Yes, it's still free plus I can now manually select Vodacom and surf for free on the Vodacom 3G network!
See here

My balance is actually INCREASING while surfing.
Also the service is improving - just a bit erratic with two disconnect - . This is odd.
*considers buying a data card .... *
