ADSL 2 the so called high speed Broadband

Hi, I started a new thread coz I could not find a ref to ADSL 2 which is supposed to be high speed broadband and seems to be available in major cities, I live in a regional centre so we don't have it yet and we also don't have wireless broadband in our locality.
I wonder if members of forum have experience with these in country area or small population locations that have access and would like to know if I should take it up when it arrives. Telstra Australia has a big job in a big country so I suppose small towns don't make them any money but govt policy is making sure that rural customers get access to ADSL. We only managed to get 512/128 last year 2005 as it was not available except 128/64 which is not much faster than ISDN pairs.

So please tell me your experience.
My business needs really high performance internet for video stream and super 8 mm work ptints prior to DVD transfers and an ability for client to download large video files in a short time not the hours it takes now.

Are there altenratives? is sattleite still used for internet and can it give a realistic speed?

I am actually looking for a similar answer, but advise on the best connection to get in Kinglsey, Michigan in the United States?

Anyone have some advise on the best connection, currently there is a 3Mbit connection installed, but I am looking for something faster and hoping 3Mbit isnt the best I am gonna get.

AT&T had a Up to 6Mbit service I think I saw, but wasnt sure.

NO ADSL2 in SA yet

But Kenya apparently has - not that their intl. pipe is anything to crow about.

Firstly welcome to MyADSL :).

South Africa is still in the grips of the local fixed line monopoly company which I like to refer to as Telkodemonopolies, this particular beast has decided to treat the entire population of South Africa as if it is a technological backwater and as such we only get bog-standard ADSL here in South Africa, there appear to be no Telkodemonopolies plans to supply ADSL2+ which would deliver much higher speeds and works better with poorer quality copper.

I have an uncle in Perth WA [as opposed to the other Perth in Scotland] that has recently had ADSL2+ installed, but Perth isn't exactly a rural area, my advice is that you should ask fellow Australians the same question at whirlpool.net.au discussion forums...:)
 
Hi,

Unfortunately I can't speak for outlying area's but friends of mine in Brisbane all use iinet (http://www.iinet.com.au/) which is an ADSL2+ service, they get an average of 15Mbps and are very happy with it, constantly rubbing my nose in it :(
