I'm a loyal MTN subscriber but now I'm writing this using a Vodacom prepaid service on my E220 and it is way faster than my MTN connection.

MTN signal is bad. VC is full bars!

MTN has forced me to try out VC because the bloody dual call sim is blocked for data and is useless in my E220!!! :mad:

Had some trouble with VC to get it working, there Vodacom4me site is very frustrating and not able to activate the data but now that it is working I get dataspeed more than twice than I got with MTN in all this time and VC does it in the first go!

Heh, as long as you remember that Vodacom doesn't have prepaid bundles....you'll be paying R2 p/MB on prepaid until VC force you back to MTN.

On side note, try Virgin too, it uses the Vodacom network for 3G [well in my case anyway...i'm using Vodacom 3G on Virgin right now] . At least it's only 50c p/MB .

Why not report the bad signal to MTNDATADUDE? I have tried all the networks and Vodacom does not impress me. With Virgin you can piggyback on VC for the moment anyway and get the bad Vodacom service at a discount (or even free).

Rather stay with MTN. Im with vodacom and thinking of moving to MTN but mainly for voice issues as opposed to data issues.

MTNUser, for what it is worth, I have been with Vodacom for the last 10 years and during that time have had relativley good service out of them. I have a few of my work colleagues who are in the process of porting to Vodacom from MTN. They complain about poor coverage in areas where I have no problem and definitely do not enjoy the same extent of 3G/HSDPA coverage. In honesty, the same applies in reverse, but SEEMS to be on a smaller scale.

I am not saying that Vodacom is without problems, but in general I have been very happy.

Like everything in this world, sometimes you hit it lucky and other times not - I guess I have been lucky and wish you the same luck if you decide to port.

On MTN my GSM signal is very good but the 3G signal is almost non existing so I assume not all MTN towers is 3G. There could be some other reason also.

The R2/MB is bad but at least I have a good signal, very fast connection and a backup if MTN goes down again like twice before when even the 112 number failed.

I prefer MTN but they should just once again do something good for their subscriber like abandoning the bundles and ask a flat rate like Virgin. Then there is no need for dual call sims but it still would be nice to have a dual call sim that you can use on your data card and have just one bill. (that data dual call sim service should be free of charge)

Good day,

All

What's the problem with your dual call not working on Data it should work I don't see any reason why it's not in terms of your coverage problem I would suggest that you log it and have the coverage guys sort it out for you

@MTNDD

Thanx for all the effort you put into helping us! I, and surely a lot of other guys as well, appreciate it. If only everybody at MTN was so committed.

The error msg:
A connection to the remote computer could not be established, so the port used for this connection was closed.

MTN phoned me regarding the dual sim and having access to data from both sims. For now there seems to be restrictions being placed on MTN that prohibit them from doing this but that could change soon. Sounds a bit weird but I’ve now accepted the fact that I’ll have to wait a bit for this service.

He also gave me the phone number of the coverage department (083 900 1212) There is an upgrade in July. They answered the phone immediately!

@MtnUser

I'm using my dual sim as a data sim the only restrictions I have is that I can't load a data bundle on the the secondary other than that it works like a bomb
