"I think the quota system has hindered the transformation process"
How much is the quota, I hardly ever see 4 black players starting for the Springboks. If there's no transformation without rules enforcing it how worse will the situation get when those rules are taken away?

Why are we not seeing any white players in soccer games anymore?

Or are they excluded from the transformation process?

We may just see SA sporting players based on merit - what is this world coming to.

They are excluded *by* the transformation process.

Transformation has never been touted as anything but the assisted advancement of "previously disadvantaged" (read non-white) players. In soccer it was not and is not neccessary!

If you would like to motivate for assisted advancement of previously advantaged players in soccer, go ahead. I think it's a different thread though.

How do you come to the conclusion that there is no transformation? Ever watched a rugby match before?

currently disadvantaged vs previously disadvantaged... but let's not go there... (that was a stupid joke) :D
actually previously disadvantaged go to further disadvantaged with quota systems. Those that shine are looked upon as charity cases.

Ambiguous :D And hate is a strong word.

I haven't read any comments from Stofile re this issue, but it does not suprise me that he would be upset. I think Jake had a brain fart.

Chilli did not deserve to be named Captain of a team wearing Springbok kit. Then to announce that at half time the captaincy would be given to Gary Botha, smacks of tokenism. Jakes only defence can be that it was not a test match!

I think there was a lot of one upmanship at the Bulls and his detractors, by Jake, after Wednesdays vote of confidence. If I'm right, Jake had better not continue to use the Springboks to send personal messages. It will explode in his face.

You mean it isn't entertaining enough? It's a tragic comedy.

during apartheid soccer was the only major sport that involoved all races. there were white players in black teams and vice versa. Somehow the white players have abondoned soccer (except for the goalies). i wonder why? white teams have all but disappeared. and all this happens after apartheid! when the springboks won the WC in '95 there was a feeling of togetherness. they were even nivknamed in the townships "amabokoboko". I don't see/feel that anymore, the irony is that there is more black players in the springbok now than then. frankly I don't see the need for quotas and I think it defeats the whole purpose of sport. Anyone who has played sport knows that there's no better way of killing the team spirit than to have players selected based on other reasons other than current form and merit. ditto springboks.
A team just does not function properly under such conditions. Instead of imposing quotas how about the GVT spends more money and effort on sports development in the townships and rural areas. This might generate enough talent to walk into any team without any assistance from a quota system.

politics. it's about promises and votes.

I think the point is that the sporting codes that are professional should be taking care of this. Hence governments excuse for interfering in sport. Rugby is one of the most visible and therefore a target.

Quota's are bs. But the administrators of rugby over the last 12 years must should the blame for politics still interfering in the sport. They were obstructive and treated the sport as their own for so long. The current crop of administrators appear to be doing a better job.

By now, we should be world beaters. SA increased the potential player base by a fair shake more than double.

The previous administrators did not try hard enough. I think they barely tried at all.
