NEw NFS: Carbon - Collectors Edition to sell/swap WHY?

OK, so I've just purchased NFS: Carbon - Collectors Edition (PC-DVD), and I've decided the IGA component that allows advertising in the game msg screen bugs me enough that I don't want to open it and play the game. :s

As such, it's on offer.

It's still sealed.

I'd consider a trade for another recent title, or non-game WHY?

I'm in Jo'burg. :)

I dont remember seeing any advertising? Other than the mod/wheel brands?
 
I've been reading up, and it uses the same technology as found in Battlefield 2142 (name?)...

IGA (In-Game Advertising)

I've decided that puts me off enough to not want to play it. :(

Link? I heard about the the BF2142 thing but I believe it was stamped.

They took it out of the game? Really? Do you know when?

If that's the case with all of the games I'd keep it, but I didn't find any mention of EA removing it on Google.

my 2 cents :D I am all for IGA.

I see on DOA4 for the Xbox 360 in some of the arenas my profile motto is scrolling around in lights. I see no reason why it can't say Buy Coca Cola or something. As long as the advert is not getting in the way of gameplay I say go for it... Possibly we will get free games soon because they make all the money from advertising?

As long as i am aware of such a builtin programme i have no worries about it.

R6 also has the same feature and its stated in the game manual that whilst online some new adverts could be loaded for display within the game.

Yeah I do realise that :)

Personally if I am playing Gears of War and one of the locusts is hiding behind a Coca-Cola billboard I couldn't care less. rather let them get money like that.

Like I said as long as it does not interfere with my game then I don't care. Watch me complain if I ever receive a popup ingame..... I will shove that game so far up the developers @ss he will need a proctologist to get it back out again :D
 
Advertising in games sucks. It borders on spam because I have no choice in the matter. I will keep playing though, it just sucks.
 
well there is no running away from it. you get to see it in the movies, during TV intermissions, on the way to work, on your cellphone and in your inbox too!

advertisement companies are resorting to all forms of media distribution to get to you. eish.
 
what does this advertising do?

i mean does it affect your game play

does it mess around alot with your game?

i guess you dont watch tv then either :)

advertising is way of life, im surprized its taken so long to enter the gaming market

maybe the extra income EA will make a game that doesnt require 10 patch before its complete
 
Afaik it doesn't affect the gameplay, but the principle bugs me enough not to want to play it.

In the same way you wouldn't want "Spyware" on your PC, I don't want some game pulling BS ads from the 'net.

It's the reason I run firewalls, etc.

...not so much that I have something of value on my HDDs, but I just don't like unknowns floating around on my network. Simple as that.

I know I could easily block the ports on a firewall, but that's not the point.

I'm not here to start. It bugs some of us, and others not.

If it doesn't, then go ahead and play, but I'm not. :)

not in real life dude, you can't turn those billboards on the way to work off, but you can ignore it, just like you can ignore these ads in these games.

Anyways, what is NFS? It's a driving simulator, and in real life we have ads all over the place, so wouldn't adding ads to games actually make it more realistic?

If you aren't ever going to play or buy games with ads in, very soon you won't be playing games at all. If you think about it, advertising is basically what our world is based on nowadays.

Be that as it may, AFAIK there isn't any IGA if you play online from within SA. I haven't seen a single ad in BF2142 and my game didn't even come with that notice saying there is IGA.

I PAID for my game; I paid for the priviledge of owning this game, playing this game, and only the game.

I can't help the billboards on the roads, except for boycotting them if I so wish, but I can refuse to accept intrusive advertising on MY computer, in MY house, which I paid for with MY money.

Play the game if you wish; I'm not going to.

End of story.
