What do you guys think of this phone compared to the HTC TyTn?

What do you guys think of this phone compared to the HTC TyTn?

The TyTN has HSDPA ... the M700 has edge ..
The M700 has a built-in GPS module .. the TyTN doesnt ...
So it is a toss up ... do you go for the TyTN and add on the GPS later for R 2100
or do you go for the M700 with the GPS built-in ???
it depends on the end user ... personally i think the M700 has more value for money ... these devices will be available the end of this month ...
And just like the X 500 it will be bundled with Handymap Ai Gold ...
I am using a X 500 ... and so far i have been very impressed with the overall performance and the form factor ... 1.5 cm thick .. it is super slim ..
The keyboard on the M700 will be nice for most ... I personally use the Transcriber input option and it rocks

I am very happy with my X500 ..bought it last week after theGuy reviewed it (thanks again bro). Still learning all the functions but am very impressed so far.
p.S what is the transcriber input option?

Transcriber input allows your to write on the screen and it converts it to typed text ... this option takes a bit of time to getting used to the special functions
ie .. Copying and pasting etc ... I have seen guys really blitz through typing with this input method ...

TyTN vs M700

Hi ppls
Well I've com to the point were my Nokia has given up and its time for me to change, I want to go WM and have been looking at these 2 phones.
Simple really, GPS vs HSDPA.

I've got ADSL at home so I don't think I'd need HSDPA (EDGE should cater for my email)
But I'm probably gonna get either from eBay, so I'll still need to invest in GPS software, speaking of which any recommendations on which is the best SA software? So far I'm leaning towards HandyMap AI

Price on eBay (with shipping)
M700: R4800 + HandyMap: R1650
TyTN: R5100 + Increased data usage :p

As it stands the M700 is looking like a better option for me.
Thanks for any advice

Supes
PS. TheGuy, hows the firmware on the X500, I've read that a couple of ppl have been having issues with it and the M700 firmware? Or are they just being stupid? Hows the X500 going?

The X500 firmware is quite cool ... i am still enjoying mine ...
I did quite a bit of long distance driving this festive season .. with the built-in speed trap camera's on the handymap software I closed my account with the traffic department ...
Get the device from one of the local suppliers ... handymap is included with a memory card ... it would be worth your while cos if the imported device breaks you would most likely have to send it back to where you bought it from ...

Hey Supes as for the end user problems ... if the horse looses a race the Jockey gets fired ;)

LOL, thought that might be it

You know I would get it locally, but
A) The M700 isn't available here yet
B) Considering the price of the X500 is R7500, whats the M700 gonna be? 9K 10K?

If it breaks and I have to send it via Priority Mail to the US and back I don't think its gonna cost me the difference in price.

M 700 is set to be released in the next 2 weeks ... pricing will probably be the same as the x 500 ...
i have imported tons of toys for myself ... the price on ebay doesnt include the VAT and duties that has to be paid here so if you look at R 4900 + 14% = R 5586 + R 1800 for handymap you end up with R 7400 which about the price of the X500 ... and you get local support .. the support for me is the most important aspect to consider when buying anything .. but then again that is just me ...

Do you really think its gonna be the that closely priced to the X500?
Cause a 2 week wait would be worth it (that would be the time it takes to get here anyway) and from where pdashop or justmobile?
Who supports Eten here anyway? The website you bought it from?

I got mine from Justmobile ... they are the official distributors ... warrantees and repairs are done by them as well ..

Just spoke to Claude from Justmobile, they should have the M700 next week and will cost R7410 with HandyMap :)

YIPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE :D

Thanks again The Guy

Well, after a couple of delays I finally got my M700 and it was definitely worth the wait...

I do have a couple of gripes at the moment, but I'm sure things will smoothen out in time.

Great piece of hardware, and the software that comes with it is also very useful, though I'm still looking for a better today screen plugin.

GPS works brilliantly, but I do miss 3G (Dunno how to get EDGE working yet)

All in all, after a day of use, I'm pretty happy :D

The device doesnt need settings for Edge .. it should pick it up on its own ..
the Eten Boys have some nice utils in their ROM

Hmmm, odd, do I need to activate EDGE thru Vodacom or something?

Hehe, thanks TG

Nope no activation needed ... the " E " should just pop up on your device ..

Nope only ever get a 'G', and being right next to Vodaworld I'm pretty sure there's EDGE reception around here, could it be my SIM card? Still got a 32K from about 2 years back
