How do you find the PS2 for playing DVDs for instance?

I only have a PS2 that I use as a DVD player as well. I have the SCP39005 Silver (one of the last bulky PS2s i think) and it plays DVDs, DVR±R and DVD+RW fine. It does not recognise DVD-RW though.
Do you want to know the really funny thing? During PS3 and Wii launch in Asia. PS2 outsold both consoles! (I read this on gamespot.com cant seem to find the link now).
BTW PS2 is terrible as a DVD player...would be far better of spending R300 on a cheap DVD player

Nothing to do with remotes...
It just sucks as a DVD player... I think this is common - while it may be related to individual lasers, it just plain gives trouble in general.
I have titles that never played on the PS2 but play beautifully on my DVD player. Not to mention other formats - Divx VCD etc. etc.

How could the PS3 possibly have outsold the other consoles if there werent enough PS3 to even closely match the numbers......let me explain..if there are 100 PS3's for sale and there are 200 Wii's for sale and they both seel out, then there is no way that PS3 could have outsold the Wii!! See how that works?
Also, yes the PS3 did sell out at launch, sold out to a bunch of chinese nationals who don't even have TV's......in my opinion, demand for the PS3 is being exagerated because of the severe limitation of supply. Once the console becomes available, purchases will have a sharp decline...honestly speaking....who WILL be buying a PS3 for R7000 AS SOON AS it becomes available? Only once the price comes down significantly will people buy PS3's en mass....dont get me wrong...I dont want PS3's to win the console race but its undeniable that Sony enjoys popular support. If Sony wins the console race then its for the same reason people like Britney Spears sell tons of CD's.....if wii is going to WIN the race..it will have a serious battle on its hands....

I'm not really into standing in front of TV swinging a remote around to control something on the screen (WII)...that's for the kiddies...
As for PS2 being used for a DVD Problems... ...no problems at all. I have it connected to my Logitech Z5400 and everything works great (DD, DTS, PL2, etc)

And I believe you don't have to be that vigourous in the first place... I like the idea of pointing at the screen in first person.
