Do you know that over the last 2 months I have phoned Vodacom 082 111 at least 7 times without getting to speak to an actual operator

I go through the 20 million options designed to make things more "efficient" but still need to speak to a real person. 10 minutes is already more than any person should ever have to hold.

Now today when I phoned the second time (gave up the first time) I thought what the heck let me try get my account balance (not what I actually phoned for). The robot said it will be SMS'd to me.

That was an hour ago .........

I am so sorry I ever signed up with Vodacom :(

Won't you PM me the number you used to dial and I'll get them to trace what happened.

Also, if you have a query, have you tried to mail rather than hold on for ever?

What was your original query, btw?

Oddly enough I don't mind Vodacom that much, though I must admit that I am going to give Virgin a try because of the lower data rates,

HOWEVER

MTN tick me off no end, they give us the run around when trying to set up WAP.... Cost us about R60,00 - On top of that you buy MTN airtime and it expires if you don't use it in a few weeks time, and it does it on the day it says it will expire, wereas Voda give you that day and then it's gone the next day

Good luck with Virgin data! If I was you I'd wait for it to stabilise, pretty useless at the moment.

Someone I know is using them and they are not having problems, so I thought what the heck it's only R 55,00 for a starter pack, and if you give them a go they will only get better, and it will but more pressure on the other players to get off their butts

Moved from Vodacom (note telkoms finger in the pie with this) to Cell C. Even got a courtesy call from Cell-C if fine with everything! One problem, they phoned again to put me on this special they have for weekend calls, they not realising I'm on a free minute talk package.

Give them a try, as long as you have a backup, was just warning you because their service isn't yet up to standard.

I am with MTN, have a contract with them, all my problems are always sorted quickly and have never have had to wait more than a minute to talk to a real person at the call centre. My vodacom contract on the otherhand, hmmm, last time i called the call centre it took over half an hour to speak to someone, thankfully my phone has a nice loudspeaker, but vodacom, please change that bad quality music that plays while waiting, it sucks!

We've requested this before. The music you can hear IS the new improved track.:D

I called Vodacom yesterday. I was on hold for 40 minutes, until eventually my battery was running low so I took a chance and used their callback service.

I was called back within 3 minutes. Which helped calm me a little bit, but why did I have to wait 40 minutes in the first place?!

So today I just used the callback service right away, and somebody called within 5 minutes.

I am with Virgin Mobile for 5 months now and not a single problem, mostly use it for data services and not bad for the newest network.Checkers is selling Virgin starter packs for R49. with R50 airtime.Try it you got nothing to lose.

I've mentioned this before. It is absolutely horrendous. Definitely 'feeling' telkoms touch. I've been with Vodacom for at least 10 years and I feel like it's getting worse. Nearly time to go.

That Vodacom 082 111 Customer Service line is the most inappropriately-named, horrific, useless "service" it has ever been my misfortune to call. 45-55 minutes to get past the automated switchboard - shocking.

:(:( What is the point of that then?

Have a look in the FAQ for all the contact details.

The idea of the mail service is for calls where you need to know something but don't need it urgently. Price plan or coverage, for example. It's a nice way to shoot something off and then not worry till it comes back.

I often mail the call desk and normally get a final response within 10 hours or so. The 24 hour SLA actually includes non-working hours.

But if it's something critical, best is to phone.

As far as I understand the process, the callback service doesn't allow you to jump the queue. It just allows you to wait while relaxing instead of holding and using up your battery. Therefore on this occasion if you continued holding, you would have only had to wait 5 minutes. I haven't tried the call-back service recently, but when I did use it I didn't ever get a callback. I hope this no longer happens.
