WOW cap

i opened a thread in the normal gaming forum, but i never saw that there was a sticky about WOW... i posted it again cause it belongs in the world of warcraft sticky


ok, now i wanna buy world of warcraft, i have an adsl 384 kb/s, with a 3GB cap,(Telkom) wat i need to know is: How much cap does WOW use per minute or hour,and do u think it's worth it? just so i know whether to buy it or not... and i am not gonna change to isdn or leave telkom,
please some1 help

Budget on about 100mb per day roughly...u see it all depends on how much you play and in what area you play. if your doing 40man raids or AV then u can do 200mb per day add to that teamspeak for the big raids and your adding some more mb's. Sounds like your only starting out at lvl 1....if thats the case you will probably only run up about 50mb per day if you play many hours.

be carefull with your ISP (telscum)

i have the same line as you,when i started WOW with adsl i got the line plus the internet with them(telscum) my MS was sitting at 10k at month ends which was near impossible to play,I found that with WOW unshapped with a different ISP was the best account to have.

As said above, initially you will use very little of your cap whilst levelling. You'll start using more on 40man raids, though nowhere near what you use on online FPS games. However, if you use a speech client, such as ventrillo or teamspeak, which is often required on 40man raids, then expect to use about 100mb per raid.

scofield - you will NEVER be able to stick to 1 - 2 hours a day, trust me! This game is SERIOUSLY addictive.

Also, some of the lower instances (under lvl30 - Wailing Caverns, for example) can take up to three hours to complete.

A friend of mine is using my one ADSL account for a while until he sorts out his cr*ppy SAIX account and he ONLY uses it for WoW. He was on about 500 megs on the 18th and he plays about as much as, if not more than, me. So you should be fine on three gigs.

I use around 2 - 2.5gigs running WoW, browsing and e-mail. You will most likely use the net for other things besides playing the game (thottbot - quests, Hop onto WoW forums for info and advice, look for various maps etc.).

Although your usage will be quite high, I found that I can browse a page and run two accounts with little effect on the actual game's latency.

TheYak is correct ... 1 - 2 hours a day will never happen ... 'just one more quest, only have 25% to level, one last run through ZF,ST etc.. ) This game is seriously addictive, I have outleveled my son and am tapping my feet impatiently while he plays catch up!

As to other ISP's there is a thread in this forum you can goto where locals are posting their ISP's and latency's. You can also try Hellkom for a listing of known isp's in ZA.

Kind of depends what you want to do. Do you prefer fighting toe-to-toe, or nuking from a distance. That will determine the class (warrior, rogue, mage,warlock etc...)

Dont expect to be 100% happy with the first character. Currently there are some classes which are required for instances. People always need a healer and a tank and damage dealers. Healer is self explanatory. The healer is usually a priest, but druid, shaman, paladin can fill the role in some cases. A tank is someone who can take a lot damage, while the other players destroy the target. The tank is usually a warrior, then again, some other classes can fill that roll, but warrior has more abilities suited for the tank role. Damage dealers usually cant take too much damage. be aware of this. There are classes which are more suited to certain roles and there are classes which can do a few(hybrids). There is no single "uber" class. Although some classes may currently be worse off than others, but that can change. Blizzard are continuously changing the game. Currently warriors are a bit broken in player vs player(but that may change. we hope !!), but people still beg for warriors to come to instances.

If you want to deal alot of damage, then, maybe mage or warlock or rogue or hunter, but be aware that they dont have the best armor or health. The warrior usually has the best armor and health but that depends on the equipement the warrior has.

You also need to choose your faction Alliance or Horde.

My advice: have fun, play Alliance and Horde. Play as many classes as you can. When you understand the game, then choose you class and faction, and get serious with that character.

well i have had the game since the 27th and i dont enjoy it as much as every1 said i would. dnt get me wrong, it's a gr8 game but after each quest i get bored and stop playing after about 1 hour

If you aren't enjoying the game that much then try changing class, race or faction altogether. its a bold step but sometimes a necessary one. i jammed warrior first and found it to be the biggest bore, then rerolled a shaman and it was great, as if a whole new game had been opened to me.
