So the festive period is often make or break in the premiership..Lots of games in a short space of time...

Only one team has survived the drop after being bottom at Christmas, and United also tend to get better in the new year...So it should be a good few weeks :)

Just watched the Arsenal vs Blackburn Rovers game on SS3 - fantastic.

And to think they did it without the help of the best striker in the world? That shows character & a lot of good things to come.... :)

hj2k_x
25-12-2006, 11:51 AM
And with easy games left for them over the christmas period they could make a serious challenge for third place yet...

My money is on Chelsea to fall short on Boxing day and not be saved by a late late goal for once and for United to get full points into the new year...

I've downloaded the goals in divx format and have been watching em over and over..

They're available here if anyone wants them..

Looks like Lehmann might be leaving :( not all together a bad thing though..

As for Dogba *SPIT*

Chelsea ace Didier Drogba says he should be crowned the Premiership's Player of the Year - NOW!

"The voting is not down to me," he told the News of the World. "But if I don't win the prize of best player in the Premiership it will be a great let down.

"This is not vanity but reality. I believe that, today, I am the best in the League.

"The No 1 in world football? I do not say that, but it is possible."

Essien: Chelsea will lead Premiership in days
tribalfooball.com - December 25, 2006

Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien says they'll return to the Premiership leadership within a matter of "days".
He told the People: "We have a better team this season than last season.

"We have progressed and matured a lot and have learned to suffer but come back, and that is vital. We are much better than Manchester United. The difference in points in the Premiership is just a coincidence.

"It is just a matter of days before we are the leaders.

"What will be very difficult for their morale is that they already thought they were champions a few weeks back. But I have done the calculations and we will finish at least five points clear of United at the top of the table.

lol....guess that was before todays games

It's more the other way round. United I think is really happy they're top of the league and wouldn't have seen that at the beginning of the season. Chelsea thought they won the league before it even started back in August and I bet it's very bitter pill to swallow now...

Essien can do calculations heh? Maybe he can just count today the United are 4 points ahead!

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho unleashed a brutal assessment of his side's problems after watching them drop two home points at Stamford Bridge for the second time in four days in a 2-2 draw against west London neighbours Fulham. 'Maybe we are not as good as we think,' a frustrated Mourinho said after the match

Damn. Straight.

Make no mistake, Mourinho is a good manager. He did win the Champs league with a moderate side and the treble that year as well...He's just too arrogant and think he's the greatest in football and this will be the downfall of Chelsea. At the same time, Chelsea has almost 2 players per position and no idea why they can't score goals.

He even said it might be himself that's the problem..hahahahaha..he's right. And def Chelsea is about the money and not about the actual build up of a football team. Liverpool, ManU and Arsenal all buy players but don't spend so much. The team matures and trophies are won. Those teams have culture...Chelsea have money. Look at SWP...so much money and he's not even in the first team.

Mourinho admits unhappiness inside Chelsea dressing room
tribalfooball.com - December 31, 2006

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has hinted at unhappiness inside the dressing room as his team struggles to keep pace with Premiership leaders Manchester United.

He candidly admitted: "Maybe we are not so good as we think.

"Maybe I am not such a good manager, maybe the players are not such good players.

"We cannot defend, we concede incredible goals and in attack we have one player in Drogba.

"Two things irritate me and both are a little bit out of my hands.

"One is injured players. You know, what can you do? That's football and sometimes it happens to other teams, sometimes happens to your team.

"But to have, at the same time, so many injuries to important players is something you cannot control.

"And the other thing you cannot control too is that some of the players, sometimes in a quiet way, sometimes in a more noisy way, complain when they are not playing.

"And when they do, they don't play at the level they should do."

He said before xmas that after the games during the festive season, Chelsea will be on top seeing that Chelsea were to play the 'weaker' teams. From a 2 point gap to a 6 point gap is no easy feat. Well done Jose...good chance at deflecting the issue that ur star studded team can't win without scoring late goals or theatrical dives.

And did you hear him when asked if he was going to spend in the transfer window seeing as his side is " severely weakened by injury". He reckoned he would rather put his assistant, who is 50 years old in at centre half than pay the ridiculous amounts of money people are throwing about on players at the moment.

What next?! So those 300 million that Chelsea spent or players, were what? Not ridiculous?!

Get a life Jose.

Real Madrid must find £47M for Man Utd's Ronaldo
tribalfooball.com - January 05, 2007

Real Madrid are ready to make a stunning £27 million bid for Manchester United wing ace Cristiano Ronaldo.

Neither United nor Real would comment on the report, which also claims that the Reds would want a near-world record of £47m to part company with the player they signed for £12m, says the Manchester Evening News.

But it is understood that Madrid have held an emergency board meeting during their Christmas break, after ending the year with a 3-0 defeat by humble Recreativo de Huelva.

The club's hierarchy wants team rebuilding to start in the January transfer window, and it is believed president Roman Calderon has listed Ronaldo as his top target.

Ferguson hints at double swoop

Sir Alex Ferguson could bring in two new players during the transfer window.

But the Manchester United manager insists he has no intention of raising funds by selling Cristiano Ronaldo.

Bayern Munich's England midfielder Owen Hargreaves is known to be target but Ferguson refuses to go into specifics about possible transfer dealings.

Ferguson explained: 'We may sign someone in January, there may be a couple of signings, who knows? We are looking at some things.

'But we have the squad to handle it (all competitions).'

Portugal winger Ronaldo has again been linked with a move to Real Madrid but Ferguson said: 'There has not been an offer.

'It is not worth talking about anyway. It is not an issue for us.'

Former Barcelona and Celtic striker Henrik Larsson is one new recruit and set to make his debut against Aston Villa in the FA Cup on Sunday after arriving on loan from Helsingborg.

Ferguson is debating whether to partner the Swede with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer up front as Louis Saha is sidelined with a groin strain.

The Old Trafford boss said: 'Both players will be involved - I have to decide whether to start with both or just one of them.

'Like Ole, Henrik is a good finisher. They are both experienced and they can use that knowledge.

'Certainly their positional play in the penalty box is the great strength of both of them.'

Ferguson has been delighted with the way the veteran forward has applied himself since arriving.

'Larsson's performances in training have been very good, ' he said.

'I have been very pleased. He is very sharp.

'He is a man who looks after himself and I have been an admirer of him for many years.

'On two or three occasions I thought I had him. But he was always happy at Celtic and that was a problem for us.

'It was understandable he did not want to move as he was settled there.'

Former West Brom goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak will make his fourth appearance of the season in the third round, replacing Edwin Van der Sar, who is rested.

Ferguson said 'Tomasz has been excellent. In terms of a match situation he has played only three games but his performances in training have been absolutely superb.

'He is dedicated trainer, very quick and brave. He has a future the boy, no question of that.

'It is a good game for him to take part in.

'With European football beckoning next month it is important Tomasz gets a bit of football.

'Edwin has been fantastic but I think he understands we need to give the boy some experience.'

Even though they have crucial Champions League and Premiership fixtures ahead, Ferguson insists they are not taking the FA Cup lightly.

He said: 'It is a competition which creates a special atmosphere, no doubt it, when you look at all the shocks over the years.

'FA Cup history is full of United and Villa teams. We both have great records.

'We are all looking forward to the game and I hope we can get a good run.

'But we know it will not be easy against Villa as they are a very committed team under Martin O'Neill.' end

1. They will never part with Ronaldo, specially the form he is in right now
2. Hrgreaves might have been the best player in the England side at the WC but he is NOT worth 30 million anything!
3. Larrsson should be a great signing. I am keen to see him at Villa

Arsenal are ready to hand striker Manu Adebayor a new contract to ward off attention from Manchester United.

Larsson is only here for 3 months (that's around 12 games I think) so unless he signs an extended contract, we prob do need more strikers but def not Adebayor.
