Openweb IS local account for games...and ping times

Are any of you using the Openweb IS local accounts for gaming?

I don't know if it's shaping on my account or my line but I'm getting TERRIBLE Ping times on my 4Meg line when trying to play BF2 locally.
 
Chavez post some ping times that you get...

Do a ping test and trace test to games.saix.net and post your results.

I also have another thread that I posted (ISP fault or not) in which I have some ping results of my own, but it doesnt seem as if anybody wants to help me (seeing as there was 40 views of my thread already ! :mad: :mad: )

But compare the ping times that you get with mine in that thread and post your results

Edit....just seen you have an unshaped account...no fair dude!!! Can't compare apples with pears!!!!
 
Ok so I ran the pings and traceroutes and look what I found...have a look at ALL the traceroutes and notice the 1 ip (196.38.73.142) which ALWAYS has a high ping?????

Could anyone shed some light on this? Who's router is that?

It doesnt go to Mauritius - AfriNIC, headquartered in Mauritius, is merely the body that allocates IP addresses in Africa.

The 196.XX.XX.XX range of IP addresses is, afaik, exclusive to SA.
 
Where can I then get details on that IP/router which has such high ping times?

I've killed my SLOW IS connection and ran the same tests on my SAIX account and look at the difference!!!! :eek:

If you think about it your going to get better speeds to games.saix.net via a SAIX account regardless of any IS problems - it's on the same network :D

IS and SAIX also traditionally have peering problems.

I have a SAIX account exclusively for my gaming PC and 360 - the rest of my machines use a variety of accounts depending on what their purpose is.

I'm getting a 400-500ms ping to there on my 4 meg line, and thats with quite a few torrents going too.

I'm doing exactly that...that was the whole point of purchasing the OpenWeb IS local only account. AND IT'S SO SLOW!!!!!!!!!!

So what I've done is killed the IS account, via routesentry, and play BF2 via the SAIX account.
 
thats strange i ping it and get under 20 my IS isnt slow :)

but im on 512 k maybe in trying to limit ppl with 4meg lines they screwed up somewhere
