New Features - Overview
Added support for Wi-Fi Protected Access Version 2 (WPA2) which supports either AES or TKIP encryption types. WPA2 is now the most secure security option available and should be used if your equipment supports it. The various security options can be selected on the Wireless Settings page under Security Options.
Added support for Wi-Fi Multimedia Quality of Service (WMM QoS) to prioritize wireless voice and video traffic. WMM QoS is a feature that provides prioritization of wireless data packets from different applications based on four access categories: voice, video, best effort, and background. For an application to receive the benefits of WMM QoS, both it and the client running that application must be WMM-enabled. Legacy applications that do not support WMM, and applications that do not require QoS, are assigned to the best-effort category, which receives a lower priority than voice and video. WMM QoS is enabled automatically.
Added support for PPPoE Relay. When enabled, this feature will allow a PPPoE client on a local PC to connect to a remote PPPoE server with the gateway acting as a relay agent. PPPoE Relay functions only with Encapsulation type PPPoE (see Encapsulation on the Basic Settings page). PPPoE Relay may be enabled on the WAN Setup page and is disabled by default.
Added option for VPN "Any" on the VPN Policies page for Auto Policies. For the Local LAN if "Any" is selected the VPN endpoint may be at any IP address. For the Remote LAN if "Any" is selected outgoing traffic from the "Local IP" PCs will trigger an attempted VPN connection to the remote VPN endpoint. Any Internet traffic will be sent via the remote VPN endpoint. Please be sure you want this option before selecting it, as selecting this option may result in no Internet access if the remote VPN endpoint does not have Internet access.
Added a checkbox to disable the firewall with Network Address Translation (NAT) disabled. If the firewall is disabled with NAT disabled the protections normally provided to your network will be disabled.
Added an option to access the Router Management Interface at the Router LAN address at a user selectable port in the NAT disabled case. This feature is available on the LAN IP Setup page under Advanced.
Added a pulldown menu on the ADSL Settings page to allow the DSL mode to be selected. Auto (Multi-mode) is the default and will work in all but some rare legacy cases. The other options are ADSL (G.DMT) and ADSL2+. When these options are selected the mode is not autonegotiated but set directly to the selected mode. Select these modes only if you have information indicating that selecting one of these modes may resolve a problem.
The manual has been updated and is accessible by clicking on the Web Support Documentation link when the Router is on-line.
Modifications / Bug Fixes
Added an "Ping VPN" enable/disable checkbox to direct Diagnostics page Pings through an enabled and functioning VPN tunnel if the ping endpoint matches the VPN policy. Previously the Diagnostics Ping would not go through the VPN interface.
The ADSL VCI Auto detection range was enlarged to 32~100 to include Singapore, Malaysia, and other countries.
Fixed a problem where an error could be returned in some cases when Trend Micro Security Services (TMSS) was enabled by clicking on the "Get 1 Year of Parental Controls Free!" banner on the Security Service or Parental Control page.
Fixed a problem where Wi-Fi settings could not be saved when the Management Interface was used with the German language.
Fixed a problem where IKE Keep Alive on the VPN-Auto Policy page could fail after a few hours.
Fixed a problem where Internet access could fail across a VPN tunnel with Trend Micro Security Services (TMSS) enabled.
Fixed a problem when using VPN where remote shares could not be accessed using \\ip_address\sharename.
Known Issues
There is no default VPN SA lifetime listed in VPN-Auto Policy when using the Management Interface with the German language. The default SA lifetime should be 3600 seconds. Italian, English and French languages do not have this problem.
