the Apple iPhone... is it really worth it ?

it apparently has edge ... i was checking the specs .. i thought my 1.5 cm thick X500 had the body of a super model .. the i-Phone is 1.1 cm thick .. or should i say thin
 
The phone won't be cheap, and due to it lacking some serious features, for one, 3G and another, a better camera (2MP), I won't be going for it.

Plus, from reports they won't be available in SA due to specific GSM extensions being required to be made on the network provider for some of the phone's features to work.
Thus far only Cingular in US will be reselling this phone on a 24 month contract.

But, Vodacom is quite keen to adapt their network to accommodate the iPhone (rpm posted the link to the article)

Put a dell logo on it and you'd be sniffing at it like a dog on heat :p

No - which reports? I do recall hearing that the video voicemail required a little extra network support but who cares? That's one feature.

Thats why they're only releasing it it in Q2.

ICASA will have to approve it too afaik.

It does seem like an odd decision when looking from the outside in. Like I said on a previous thread the only reason I can come up with for this is cost.

Personally the only 3rd party app I would be interested in would be some kind of VoIP app so its not a deal breaker for me. Ease of use, responsiveness of the interface and style count more for me. Time will tell.
 
The iPhone has a revolutionary touch screen interface with features we have never seen before.
ive read up about and apparently there is a scrolling feature we u flick the screen and it scrolls much like inertia making it very easy to navigate, it also has another neat feature called multitouch where you can use your thum and forefinger on the screen to adjust the zoom level... thats pretty neat.

however one thing that i cannot fathom is why it is not 3G/HSDPA enabled. does just not make sense on a device like this.

Perhaps it will be by the time it hits our shores. iirc the Cingular network doesnt make extensive use of 3G at this time and the phone is initially intended for that market.
