Anyone have any clue as to when we might be able to buy the iphone in south africa?

It'll only be released the end of the year in Europe, methinks (6 months at the earliest). I don't see it being here before Q1 2008.

Of course, I may be wrong :)

ziglet, do a search on the forums, the iPhone has been discussed in a couple of different threads, including possible arrival dates for SA (IIRC Q2 2008). Also, Vodacom seems keen to adapt their network to accommodate the iPhone :D

Man you guys are optimists! I think maybe only mid 2008... and why? Well it is the same story with all products... profit.

America (the biggest consumer market in the world) will lap this up for almost a year and then Europe and Asia and then maybe, just maybe, we will see it Q1 2008. I bought a PSP in America because I had to wait another 8 months till they started shipping to any other region.

The iPhone will be upgraded by then and we might just have to wait again for that one:(. When I go to America on business I will by one, nothing else to do.

I think im the only person thats pessimistic about this phone, all american phones suck, Id be surprised if the phones impresses me.

Canadian? Mmm never knew that, taught FBI had a hand in it.:)
Yes popular like the IPhone, but would you really use a V3??

The thing is they just recently became part of GSM, they a little behind.

But we will wait and see.

I've been using a Razr for 18 months now - no problems whatsoever. I've also been using a blackberry for roughly the same period.

They may be a little behind but they are a massive market - Cingular alone has 61 million customers.

They a little more than behind IMO. But their sales show otherwise, so I guess they have a few fans.

As for Cingular they have the numbers the US has a higher population of mobile users hence their subscriber base, India's Hutch has more.

The masses are now into features of mobile so as for the new Motos like the Rizr and Krzr they wont do as well as the Rzr.

But we talking about Apple. They have the name, so their first year will be their hardest, if the phone is really all that its claimed to be, they could be a favourite in the mobile industry, but I still feel with the technology behind SE and Nokio, their first few years outside of the US wont be very easy.

FBI and US government use Blackberry ... it is an awesome service based on the old school pager system ... the fact that the service uses Tripple DES security makes your Data Amour plated
