"E" sign for edge on Motorola V360v?

Hi everyone. I have a motorola V360v with a vc sim. I've never seen a E sign at the top of screen even when I'm in edge coverage area. Is this normal, or do this phone show a E sign when I have edge coverage. I didn't get higher speeds worth mentioning, so I dont know if I had edge. Another thing that bothers me, is the phone are vlive branded. So when you insert a vc sim, it automatically download edge settings. But then I cant use opera on my phone when I use vlive internet settings. So I downloaded normal vodacom settings, installed it, and now it works. But why wont opera work with that settings? And will I ever get edge speeds with normal settings?
