Have you ever had your monitor flash rapidly only in one corner? I started noticing it a few days ago. It flashes faintly in the lower left corner of the screen. Is it perhaps refreshing itself or is it time for a new monitor?

Is it LCD or CRT? Never heard of that before, doesn't sound healthy though.

My father's old Samsung CRT monitor at work started doing that and then stopped for a while. After that it started displaying huge strange characters on the screen, even when not connected to a video-out (as in no video input whatsoever). I assume it has something to do with the onscreen menu getting senile, but it's really spooky to watch.

I had a CRT that had the same problem.
It was the transformer in my light causing the ****.

sometimes deskfans connected to the same powerstrip as the pc/monitor can have that effect.

you're basically pulsating, and putting that pulse onto the mains (over and above the normal 50hz pulse) and the monitor can display this in weird ways.

Magnets in speakers placed too close can also have similar effects on your monitor

my guess is the printer power supply or speaker is too close... try moving them.

What the hell is a modesty board? Something you put a vanity case on? :P :D

Had a similar problem where the guy put an UPS under the desk. Was a bitch to find the problem as it was hidden behind the modesty board!

Thanks for all the advice and suggestions. The problem seemed to be the speakers being too close to the monitor. Thanks Datura and PiesangTree for the tips. ;)
