A few weeks ago when the Milnerton cluster went "live", I started getting a rock-solid full-bar 3G signal at my place (Royal Ascot). Obviously, I celebrated and vowed to dump my VM simcard once I run out of airtime and move to the faster option :)

However, about a week or so ago my coverage almost disappeared! If I'm extremely lucky I might get a 2 or 3 bar signal for a few minutes, but 95% of the time my phone reverts back to GSM. Gone are the days of locked-on full-strength 3G.

Possibly any towers down in the area?

Thanks!

Good day,

I'll check this with network and advise ASAP

Subject: RE: Please advise on the below?

Hi

This client is Royal Ascot – Western Cape.
Closest operational sites T19 – T4993 – T4706 – T3815.
All of these are not 3G enabled. Client is not with 3G coverage.

Thanks MTNDD - and there I got all excited about nothing. (Guess MTN will be missing out on some more data revenue then... :))

Strange thing though - I wonder where the initial few weeks of coverage came from. (And yes, I'm sure I wasn't dreaming - the data was flying and I made a few test video calls as well...)

Maybe cell breathing from lots of people with 3G phones only getting back to work now? (I'd love to try and lock my phone to 3G, but my firmware won't allow it. Does anyone know where one can get hold of Netmon for 6630?)

Won't FTD Netmonitor work on your phone I've got it on my 6680 and I force it to 3G only and it work's like a bomb

Link wise we are only waiting on two links. 80% of the cluster is ready and Ericsson has started their final tuning. So if all goes well we should be active there within the next couple of weeks.

The below sites in this area are earmarked for 3G. The sites have been build and we are now waiting on Telkom. To my knowledge only Harbour Island has not been completed due to some landlord issues.

As soon as I can track Albi down I will update you on the link situation.

Yup - I used to use it, but then lost the app and couldn't find it again.

But it seems like the app just tracked ME down, so I'll give it a bash and let you know :)

Okay cool as I've got it on my PC should anyone else like to give it a bash

Installed the app, forced 3G mode, and it worked a treat! 3-4 bars of coverage, sometimes dropping down to 1 or 2, but no disconnects during calls. (Still need to test data speed though...)

Thanks for the help guys!

That's pretty good in an area that supposedly does not have 3G coverage! ;)

Yup! I guess the top floor does have a slight line-of-sight advantage :)

i am having a similar problem in Lansdowne , Cape Town , signal very erratic , have noticed via cell broadcasts that i am picking up 3G from distant base stations (Pinelands and Claremont)and not the 1 closest to me , Kenilworth Centre.checked cellbroadcast minute ago , Westlodge / 20B

@3Gee

If you want I'll email you the coverage template if you can fill that out for me I'll escalate this to the coverage manager and see if they can look into this and assist ASAP
