4GB flash drive for R500 - any good?

What you guys reckon about this?

My mother has a 512MB one of this brand and she hasn't had any issues...

Has anyone else had problems with Axiz? Otherwise you can't beat the price...
 
we bought 200units and thus far we have had no returns. The Sahara units are R350-R400 for 4Gb and the 8Gb version is +/- R1200.

To me flash memory is flash memory and probably comes from the same factory anyways.
 
sahara had a special 4 gig for 299 and 8 gig for 899

i dunno about sahara's usb sticks they seem very flimsy

build quality aint that great (had to glue mine back together), but the memory itself is pretty good
 
Same here, my casing broke in the first week, glued it together and still running strong for a year now.
 
Hear of 2 seperate people who had out-of-box failure with sahara memory sticks. (Unable to format/pick up) Think they got them swapped out.
 
flash memory is flash memory ... you will probably lose it before it gives up on you .... like Supes mentioned ... I just wrap some invisible tape/ electrical tape over them and they last forever.

buy the cheapest you can lay your hands on....

and to think that there are freaks out there who go buy 'branded' ones from Sony, etc at twice or three times the cost !!!

i cant loose mine i use it for my car radio

i must get a 4 gig or the 8 gig stick ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh 2 could fit almost all my music
 
my Corsair Voyager caved in yesterday. Not very sad about it (it's got a 10y warrenty), but i do miss all my data i did not back up since des :(

Because they work better than the cheap crud you get from Sahara :).

Try copying a DVD to one of these sticks and see the BIG difference between decent and crud.

These cheap a$$ USB sticks use a fast highspeed 128MB flash which is then used to trickle feed to the far slower and cheaper 1GB flash memory.

For short burst writes they are fine but not when you are copying large amounts of data like a CDROM worth in one go.

You cant compare a name brand proper flash drive to the no name ones you can buy.

This is what I was thinking. How slow the transfer rate is going to be, cos then it doesnt matter how big and cheap the drive is if the data transfer rate is really slow...

You got a link? Or you know where I an pick one up? Me and me mate have always had Sahara till now and we haven't had any bother. Mine is still in one piece :)

you do have a point ... I guess it boils to use .... I simply use my flash discs as a repository of miscillaneous files and music ... plain and simple stuff.... no problems yet ...

I particularly like the ones that have their bodies totally encapsulated in rubber-feel plastic. They are more robust.

To date I have copied a CD rom worth of data on my one-gig stick with no hassles ... but I dont do this everyday ...

So if you plan to religiously be dumping loads of data - go for the high speed ones.



Side comment:
If you have not gotten yourself one of these Kingmax micro flash drives yet - I suggest you do. I have it attached to my car keys and I must admit that it has really saved me many times when I visit clients/buddies and want to quickly save a doc/song. It is like my emergency flash.

i'd be using mine to cart movies and series round to my friends' pcs, so it would have to have a decent transfer speed...
