Can anyone tell me why my drive takes like 1hour to copy a 4.5GB disk to my HDD. Is this normal? Ifeel it has gone much slower.

how full and fragmented is your harddrive? those normally slow things down, also have you tried a different ide cable?
i've got the same drive, but mine is messed up, the tray keeps opening at random times, its really irritating when it happens in the middle of a movie :(

Could be anything really... Low on ram, fragmentation of hard-disk, low cache hard-disk (maybe a 2mb one), even Cache of the DVDRW drive, Could be faulty / old IDE CABLE, COuld also be that u didn't install your chipset drivers of the IDE controllers for your specific motherboard, Maybe some applications running thats using lots of CPU or maybe memory, Maybe anti-virus scanning the hell out of your system.

Its a tuff one, and could be a any one of the above.

well my xp takes like 10times longer to load up and was last installed in 2005. I have norton av + zone alarm firewall + skype in the background.

my drive is 2mb cache.
my hdd is wd raptor. 10000rpm

Uninstall Norton and get something that is free and a lot easier on your pc's resources, like AVG. Also uninstall old software you don't use any more, that and other stuff mentioned above...
