Firefox eating my money.

Everytime I start Firefox, it eats 760mb. It shows "done" but still carries on downloading something for another 4 minutes. My laptop at work does the same.
Where the hell this goes, I don't know. My NetMeter programme shows a solid red block. When I change to IE, there are only a few red spikes for a few seconds and that's it.
Any help out there?
 
Guessing it must be kilobytes, hopefully:) Do you have any toolbars etc. installed?
 
FF2 is, in 1 word, "immature". I'd use "crap" to describe it, but I like FF in general. The problems of massive memory usage, massive CPU usage, it not closing properly and it not responding are posted all over the mozilla forum. But the development team say they cannot reproduce the problem so it must be the users' machines / config. When a problem was reproducable, the mods and devs blamed the site's code..... Utter BS, if you ask me. Also, sometimes FF disables buttons (like the "OK" button on the save dialogue and the "Confirm payment" button on Nedbank's internet banking site.) :mad:

If you are using FF2, then take killadoob's advice and downgrade to 1.5. I'm going to.

I've been using FF2 since it came out, and currently It's using 60mb or so of ram.

I think some extentions can seriously screw it up though.

I've seen my FF go up to 150MB of ram usage, it's just caching lots of stuff.
 
Sorry guys, it uses up 760kb of my bundle. I have FF 1.5 and Google toolbar.
 
yea, ff can be a RAM muncher, but seriously nothing that cant be sorted by upgrading RAM, and not just for FF but for everything.

I have reinstalled vista lately and when putting FF2 on i had a similar occurence as to what marco describes, but it was just for the update.

marco you have no idea if it is trying to install ff2 or something but somehow gets lost in translation?
 
Marco, perhaps you have the "faster fox" add-on installed..? Just turning the setting down to "Optimized" would do the trick if that's the case.
 
Am using Firefox 2 and never had a problem so far...

What add-ons for FF had you got installed? Like mentioned previously, check for windowsupdates and other things which can suck your bandwidth up quicker than Dracula at a virgin maiden... :D
 
Another happy FF2 user, my only gripe is some Flash games aren't as responsive as on IE (or even better, Opera). Otherwise its the mecca to my internet addiction :D
 
i have FF2 and what happened when i closed it wouldnt open again i had to go and close it end program and then it would open and the same thing would happen
 
Problem has now stopped and on the bottom RHS a small window has opened showing the latest American news and photos etc. I have disabled this and my computer and I are happy again.
