[Vodacom] 110 Directory Enquires (Vodacom3g maybe you can help)

So I recently ported from MTN to Vodacom Talk 1000 and kept my 083 number. Clever huh?

Well, I often need the use of directory enquiries...110. I like to be connected and have the number sms'd to me for future use.

110 says they can't sms me the number because I'm on MTN (They can see the number on their CLI). I tell them I've ported to Vodacom, but they argue that I have an MTN/083 number. I beg them to try sms me - which they do (or at least say they do) but the sms never arrives.

I think this is an oversight in the whole number portability thing and needs to be escalated. I tried calling 1082, and they were clueless. "Huh?" was their response.

OK, here's the low-down.

As part of the anti-spam systems in place APPLICATION-generated SMS's are not allowed to pass between the networks.

So the Directory Service SMS's are being blocked because it'll still consider a ported number as foreign.

You're quite right, it's a side-effect of MNP.

It's being fixed.

Apparently there's similar problem on V4ME.

Okay...the sms's come through fine - the call-center lady still argues with me that I'm on MTN! (I argued back)

Haven't experienced it myself, IIRC you can't sms someone that has e.g. an 083 or 084 number even if they've now ported to Vodacom. Just something I saw mentioned a while back, nobody I know has ported yet so I haven't noticed it personally, might even have been fixed by now. ;)

Can someone test, i.e. SMS a Vodacom-ported 083 or 084 number from 4me?

hahahaa so your saying actual spam sms's (festival faces etc) was / is allowed (in our humble opinion), while a genuine service sms (actually requested by the user) was refused and seen as spam??? :eek:

oh the irony lol it kills me hehe

hahaha aah... what more can one do but laugh hehehe

Those "spam" msgs would probably also have been blocked to ported numbers.
