When I try to dial directly into the voicemail of a number that was ported from Cell-C to Vodacom by dialling 084131XXXXXXX I get a voice that says that the number does not exist even though it does exist.

Does this mean that you cannot dial into the voicemail of a ported number or can this be fixed?

(Can a moderator please move this post to the Cellular: Phones, Call Contracts, Content subforum. Only saw it after posting)

It looks like all these MNP issues still have to be sorted out. They should be eventually, just takes time.

Try 082-14-84x-xxxx.

If you dail 084-14 the Cell-C network won't know that that's a ported number and won't forward the call to the Vodacom network.

AFAIK, Vodacom is the only network that will route direct voice mail numbers correctly to ported numbers.

If you're on one of the other networks you need to know if the number ported and then dial the network as per the above example.

What if you don't know what network the person is on?

Lets say someone just gives me their number as 083 XXX XXXX - they could be on Vodacom, Cell-C or MTN - I don't know?

The network that you ported from should route it but as far as I know only Vodacom is doing this.

So in other words even once you're ported you're still to some degree reliant on the (in)competence of your original network?

My understanding, except (in this case) Vodacom seems to route it properly. (I hope!)

To be blunt I was more worried about the poor people porting from Cell C! lol.

:D

Edit: Sorry I read your post again and see what you mean now. ;)

Thanks vodacom3g it works

escalate the query to mnp as it is routing issue on the network, this one of the things the networks did not forsee happpening when porting was introduced.
