Office 2007 launched yesterday. I was so looking forward to upgrading from Office 2000.

BUT the Price!!!!!!!!! OMG.......R5800 for the Pro version....R4700 for the Standard version.

As a homeuser, how the hell could I afford that.......its more than my computer cost!

OpenOffice must be dancing in the halls. :)

I thought there were upgrade prices as well?
 
I was looking forward to the new Windows Vista and Office 2007, but after I have seen the prices, I think I will give it a miss.
 
Price of Vista

While I am in moaning mode, lets chat about Vista's price:

It cost $6 Billion to develop. The "preferred edition of Windows Vista for home desktop and mobile PC" retails at R3000.00. The Business version retails at R3750.00.

MS expects to sell 100 million copies in the first 12 months mostly on new pc sales. Lets do some maths

100 000 000 copies X R3375 average price / R7.25 exchange rate = $46.5 Billion

So they spent $6B and will have a return of $46B in the first year alone.

Nice investment!
 
There is one for R1700 normal price. Makro has a special on for this week - R1500. But the student edition only includes WORD, EXCEL, POWERPOINT and something called ONENOTE 2007.
 
Office 2003 for businesses who can afford it, and OpenOffice for those of us without any money... :D

2007 is a piece of excrement...

Thanks but your link says that is the "DSP Version - only for sale with Computer components. Please note that thermal paste, cooling liquid and writeable media are excluded from this."

DSP means "Microsoft OEM DSP Delivery Service Partner product. This is almost the same package as "OEM" on but charge their "partners" (Microsoft OEM DSP dealers) higher price (compared with "OEM" as above) and let "partners" solve end-user's problem with the "help" of Microsoft & Developers on Web sites."

I just want the software not a new pc
