A number of blogs (MacUser (http://www.macuser.com/hardware/the_airport_extreme_is_extreme.php)/MacWorld (http://www.macworld.com/news/2007/01/30/basestation/index.php)) are reporting that the new 802.11n enabled Apple Airport Extreme Base Station is currently shipping to customers in the US. They are also reporting that the 802.11n enabler software that will upgrade core 2 duo intel macs to 802.11n (draft) capability will be availbale for download from today.
The US Apple Store has not been updated to show the changed ship date yet, and I don't see the enabler on the Apple Store either yet.

Its a US law (the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarbanes-Oxley_Act)) that is requiring them to charge for the 'n' enabler so I dont see why we should have to pay. Either way it's a bit lame of apple.

Here's a direct link for the enabler. http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/6184000/wo/td5jjx8vOF4G3oWTEwEpoAVUDQd/6.0.21.1.0.8.25.7.11.0.3

IIRC there was some controversy about whether they need to charge for it. Anyway it looks like the new C2D macs are already shipping with 802.11n enabled, and the enabler is shipping with the AEBSN.
The Apple Store makes a point of it being a multiple machine license, almost like they don't care if it gets shared.

Bwana, how would SOX have anything to do with this?

It seems to be a stealth update - kinda like the 1.5Mhz G4 mini's.
Now that the AEBSN is shipping, there is no reason not to enable the "n" on the macs being built now. I saw on the support forum that some people had n already enabled on their macs.
