iBurst plans to add 50 000 new subscribers in 2007

They sure getting better! at least i have a bad signal now instead of none.

I hope they plan to more than double their international bandwidth as well..

iburst is a viable option as far as a home user goes. the only thing they seriously need to look at is the cost of their modems. im sorry but i dont care how good their service or offering is i aint forking out 2 grand for a modem i cant use anywhere else.

just my $0.02 worth

Iburst prices and packages have not changed since their launch almost two years ago. While they were a value-for-money proposition in those heady days, they no longer are. iBurst is expensive.

Unless they drop prices and/or improve packages they are not going to retain their existing client base. They've been making noises about package/speed/pricing improvements for a very long time, but consistently disappoint.

So while they will attract new customers, their existing customers are coming to realise they are paying through the nose for a service that is becoming less and less competitive.

My thoughts exactly Gatecrasher which is why I have applied for an ADSL line... On the Closer 4 package I save +- R400 p/m without iBurst... They need to price themselves accordingly to keep any market share...

The only prices they dropped was the ridiculous activation fee and modem prices.

More players in the field - more competiton

That's all they care about

That's the problem with Iburst. All they care about is expanding so they can make more money. In the mean time their customer service is mediocre and their billing/accounts department is even worse. Also, what with all the expansion one would hope that their prices will come down, but no. I don't know if we will ever see affordable broadband in this country.

I agree. They are going to lose many existing customers. Many people including me are waiting for viable alternatives to come along.

They ain't gonna drop prices cause then that would upset their parent companies, namely Vodacom/Telkom...

Why does the competition commission allow these deals in the first place?
I'm talking about Telkom buying Vodacom buying iBurst...

Upset iBurst customers? No problem, they just run to Vodacom or Telkom...

Hi guys

I think we should wait to see what Sentech will do...I think if they drop prices iBurst may just follow. I agree with Gatecrasher that it is time for an improvement...since their launch wholesale BW prices decreased substantially...time to pass it on to their customers.

I agree with what is being said here. iBurst need to realise that consumers want LOWER prices and NO CONTRACTS. If they sort this out, they might become a viable option - signal issues and caps aside...

How much more does it realistically cost for Iburst, Vodacom/MTN etc. to deliver a GB of data compared to for instance ADSL? I'm just wondering why their per gig charges are so much higher when once it leaves their network they pay the same wholesale rates as everybody else presumably.

I am sick and tired of people and companies telling world+dog that they're the best since sliced bread, and plan to make inroads on the South African telecommunications/whatevahhhh market, and nothing gets done.

Sick and tired, do you hear me!

Stop waffling and start doing something, we are tired of hot air and empty promises.

What we, as consumers, would like to see :

 • Lower prices
 • Higher speeds
 • No caps - or larger caps
 • Unshaped access
 • Service Level Agreements for businesses

Should you have the guts to offer this to us, the consumer, we will stand by you, no matter what happens.

Thank you.

Another irritated consumer.

I am patiently waiting to see what NEOTEL will do for us. I am not falling for these Telscum Closer Packages and will give iBurst a complete miss.

do they no longer have the month to month option?

Well according to a big article in Computing SA - January# Neotel will not be charging anything less than Vodacom as they do not want a price war with a company sitting on billions of Rands of profit.

As for Sentech im not too confident but will wait and see their supposed cheap options. LOL it will probably be a 20meg cap at 20rand a month or something stupid or similar. Small bucks but small offer all relative to expensive prices in larger increments. Remember this country believes e-mail is a bandwidth intensive application :p stupid pricks :) ha ha

Yes, they do. But you do need to fork out for a modem on month-to-month.

Personally, I don't think a modem is sufficient reward for being locked into a 24 month contract. At least with Telkom they throw the modem in for free if you sign a contract...

With iBurst you still have to pay for the modem in the inflated contract price.

Outrageous.
