Just wanted to know if there were any of u about :D

Love this game, it's mucho complicated, but easy to get into.

And it's very kind to my bandwidth cap...

Drop me a line, my ingame name is Caetan.

Id love to play this, but i heard that if you die ingame, thats it, game over ?

Not true at all :D

You "respawn" just like any other MMO. But you may lose your ship and fittings in the process, which means you have to be carefull what you tackle. The golden rule in EVE is "don't fly what you can't afford to replace"....

About 2/3 of the 5500 solar systems on the game map are open PvP areas, so it's wise to take note of the "security" level of any solar system that you want to visit.

The politics in EVE are deep. Player alliances actually control large areas of space and defend them vigorously.

There is a free 14-day trial available from www.eve-online.com, so it's try before you buy

How big is the client?

What'r the pings like to the server?

The client is 631Mb, but unlike most MMO's, once the client is installed, there is the absolute minimum of patching required (if any).

All expansions for this game are also included in your monthly subscription, so no extra expenses :)

I have never had a problem with pings (it's not an FPS), but that said, I have an unshaped DSL account.

For those of you that decide to try EVE, it has a bit of a learning curve. Don't be afraid to ask questions ingame, the community is generally quite helpfull.

I am happy to answer questions as well, I have been in EVE for 2.5 years now, so I've picked up a lot in that time. I'm still not an expert on all things though, there is simply too much stuff in EVE.

Sweet.

Yeah I've read a lot about the dynamics and political structure (in brief) and it does look rather fun.

and erm, how much bandwidth does it chew up?

EVE is very kind to my bandwidth cap. It uses around 25% or less than what I was using playing Everquest or StarWars Galaxies.

Your mileage may vary tho, if u get into large fleet battles often (unusual), then it will be a lot higher.

But eish, ~R100 a month is quite steep for out budget. :|

Yeah, I'll give it a try but no matter how good it is, I simply can't afford it now.

Maybe I'll email them and ask them for a 'living in a crap country' discount. :)

well play the first 2 weeks free and see how you go :D

The EVE monthly sub is no more or less expensive than any other mainstream MMO (excluding Guildwars). And there are no additional costs for expansions (unlike EQ2 or WoW).

The 2-week trial will give you a TINY glimpse of what EVE is all about, unfortunately. Reading the forums at Eve-Online will expand that picture a bit.

The "real" EVE can only be experienced in full when you are part of a player corporation (i.e. a guild), of which there are hundreds. Different corps will specialize in diff. things, for instance there are mercenary corps that hire out their services to anyone that wants to "inconvenience" a rival corp (fairly unique concept in most MMO's).

Another unique thing about EVE is that you don't ever have to "grind" to improve your skills. Skills are trained in realtime, whether you are online or offline. This frustrates powergamers no end, but it's a godsend for those of us who have some RL commitments.

EVE is a "sandbox" game, so there are no "levels" or maxxed characters. You choose the area you want to specialise in and then you start training appropriate skills. To train ALL the available skills in the game would currently take 4-5 years, and new ones are added with each major expansion.

A 2-month old character can potentially kill a 2-year old character, it's not how many "skills" you have trained, it's how you use them in a given situation that counts ! How many MMO's allow that kind of freedom ?

Now if Telkom could just fix the current network problems, I could actually connect to the bloody server and start playing !

No connection since 11:30pm last night...:(

We've been playing for a few months, awesome game.
Our character is Evyl Schnukkems

Been playing myself for over two years

Join channel Rsachat1 ingame.

There always people in there at any point.

I never seem to see this chat channel open :(
what category of the chat does it usually appear?

I tried it out a month ago, and while it was fun to play, I had to go with WoW instead because I dont have a credit card. WoW gamecards can be bought locally, but not EVE :(
