Do you actually notice the difference in speed?

Does this increase in speed also increase the battery usage?

Is it worth the upgrade?
 
yes yes and (depends on the individual and what you want from your laptop)

you also havent factored in the increase in heat, which means the fans will run for longer, thereby decreasing battery life more etc etc
 
I guess i'd say speed as im looking for a desktop replacement...
 
The sata 5400 in my laptop is more than adequate for my needs and it gets some serious use as a desktop replacement.
