Hi,

Beforehand let me say, I have been investigating on the internet for almost 3 weeks now, but the information I get is either too technical for a person with no skill whatsoever in the topic, or just isn't available.

So now, to my situation. I have several investors interested in investing in an internet service provider company. About $1,000,000 let's say in accumulated capital, including bank loans. the bank loans are pre approved, not because of the business plan, but because of great credit by the debitor.

Here's the thing. I have no idea whatsoever of what is required to start offering services such as wi-fi, broadband, dsl, or dial up connection. I have spoken with several professionals, but they really don't know the root answers so that's why I'm here.

Interested in knowing, what would be required to build an internet service provider company. From the bottom up. Explain it as to a child, as I am totally new in this market, and am not familiarized with its terminology at all.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Alex

thats somewhat of a big investment for someone who is new to wisps. id say start something small, maybe between a handful of ppl over wifi and see where it goes because you want to familiarise yourself with this sort of thing before you start selling it to ppl.

If on the other hand you really want to jump into the deep end then try get telkom or neotel onboard. other than that im would be stumped aswell on where to start.

If you have no idea where to start, then to put it bluntly, you should not be starting at all!

just out of interest... which "professionals" would this be. They should know what you need, how to start... well no one would know unless you maybe talk to someone who has started one of the same size you have in mind.

Sometimes to make it big all you need is an idea, balls and a little insight.

But i would agree with the statement solely dependant on the amount at stake... too much.

Actually the pros I've been speaking with have the techical knowledge of broadbandand whatever, but they don't have the answers from root. I'm know there must be people that know this, but havn'thad the luck to find one.

Anyways,it's true, the leader of a proyect doesn't need to be an expert in the field he's workingg in. Just have a basic idea of what he's in

Also, yeah I know starting this big without prior knowldge could be thought risky, but all one needs are the facts before submerging oneself into this kind of proyect. Thousands of queestionaries would be made accross homes, all the statistics ofcurrent companies evaluated, all the aspects of the business plan formulated, etc.

Just so you guys don't worry. I'm not planning to this next week. It can take some time until I feel confident enough. I've learned through experience, one cannot go around playing with people's money as one wishes. I'm in ahurry so whatever I wrote wrong excuse me. Bye

Your first step should be to acquire a license, this could however be the biggest step. I am sure there is someone at ICASA just waiting to here from you.

Right there, you said it all - I did not even need to read the rest...

Take your money and invest in into something that,
1) You know something about
2) You have strong knowledge about
3) That you understand

Spending this amount of money in something that you don't know allot about, is insanity... I wish you all the best, but based on what you said, I won't support your ISP because it's a risk already due to the lack of technical skills...

And starting an ISP properly, will require a fair amount more than R1mil

Sure, you can start something on a shoestring budget, but you'll be providing an amateur service.

ah.. noted. My bad.
But you'll end up spending most of that on getting all the necessary Licenses.
So start at ICASA, and see how much you have left when you're done..
