Been hearing this for years... it's now reached the stage, finally, of being "imminent" ... :P

I'm curious as to why the article omitted any of the initiatives there.

Especially if they interconnected with the Pretoria network at some stage. Free calls within the whole Joburg-Pretoria region would put a massive dent in Telscum's profits.
 
its not imminent in knysna and shortly it will not be imminent in oudtshoorn - seems like the bigger the municipality the slower the progress

**Jacquie Subban, head of geographic information and policy at eThekwini, says the municipality began considering what role it could play in delivering telecom services about two years ago. The city has connected its regional offices and other facilities, such as clinics, to a citywide fibre-optic network. It is also building a wireless, wide-area network to complement the fibre infrastructure.

“We are running all municipal offices on our own voice over Internet Protocol network and have been able to accrue substantial savings,” she says.

The next step is building an access network — using a combination of fibre, wireless and powerline communications — to connect businesses and residential consumers to the city’s network. **

Hmm... I keep telling you guys its pretty much a fait accompli here in Sherwood and they are moving with Huge speed to link Everyone up.. Why theyre being so coy about the achievements so far frankly escapes me...

LOL ... shocking with a map book and even worse with co-ordinates so sorry bwana, doesn't help me much.
