Johannesburg - South Africa's second fixed-line operator Neotel has enlisted Motorola to plan its wireless networks so the newcomer can better compete with former monopoly Telkom.

Motorola said on Tuesday it won a contract to provide radio frequency planning for Neotel's wireless networks, which will include emerging high-speed technology WiMax and CDMA - a technology popular in the United States.
 
Plan it's network? Aren't they supposed to be offering services to consumers in 6 months?
 
Less than 6 months...its 2nd quarter when consumer products get rolled out. And Mr. Pandey has said more than once that they are "on track" so if they delay it they may as well f off out of SA because more delays is the last thing we need.

I am sure that they are already well advanced in the fixed line state of affairs.

Can you say 3G/HSDPA

AFAIK, Motorola PCS sector worked mostly on cellular communications. It's been a while I've been away from the company for 5 years.
 
As long as it's far cheaper than the current offerings.

*sigh*

think I can manage to afford to wait another 6 months then...
 
...also, should their offerings be Linux compatible (esp Smoothwall and IPCop and others) then that will count in their favour.

If they only offer Windoze-only solutions, then this will be a problem. I am not interested in using Windows as a firewall as I don't have a licence or the money to afford that.
 
ok here's where things can go wrong, if they must still plan it how will they get a licence for high sites/base stations in time? i mean those can be stalled esp since communities are becoming increasingly against them
