Hi all

How/who would be able to do this for me?

I have a 512k adsl line at my house, my neighbour across the road has started at our business. We figure instead of both of us having adsl, rather one account and we have a wireless link to our houses. Apart from internet, we can also share documents and files across.

His front house structure to mine measures about 45metres.

In my place i have a 16port switch which goes to the adsl router & 2 pc's. He has 3pc's and a notebook. I have given him an 8 port switch and we'll run cat5 cables from each room to the switch.

So ideally we'd only need something to get his switch and my switch connecting?

Or just get 2 AP's that have bridging support, make sure they have LOS and connect lan cable to each one pluggin into their respective switch's.

Get a wireless router and ap that both support WDS.

or search for the thread by CaptainWiFi re digging up the municipal road to lay a cable... :D

Sorry - couldn't resist :o

Seriously though - 2 wireless routers running WDS is the best way to go imho - got a setup with my neighbor like that.

I have a wireless solution similair to what you need. Quick and eays although I have really slow copy speed across the network..

You'd need to up the antennae to 6 or 8db for wireless over that distance.

ZyXEL® 2.4GHz Indoor Antenna - 5dBi - Omni Directional of up to 500m
ZyXEL® 2.4GHz Outdoor Antenna - 8dBi - Omni Directional

The Website has tons of info on how to do this stuff yourself, if you dont feel like becoming obsessed with the local WUG's :)

For 45m? My laptop alone reaches that distance.

If you're going to be doing a short link, between 2 points, please use directional antennas.

Sure, what kind of strength and signal quality do you get?

45 meters across my house through 1 wall and a window and I loose 40 percent and the equipment I have is pretty good.
Pretty good actually - I was standing in the middle of the road though with cars whizzing by so the idea of speed tests was soon forgotten. I've done a similar distance in the past between hotel rooms using airport expresses on each end and it was virtually perfect.
