MWEB launches WiMax for Namibia

Just goes to show that the corporate will is there to provide services if the regulator would just allow them to. I liked the dig at ICASA:

Edit: I wonder what Telkom's excuse will be when Namibia gets cheaper ADSL than us. "Oh, they're a smaller country, less cabling involved."

The above excerpt from the Namibia Economist states that they look forward to best effort 192kb for N$500 which, with an exchange rate of 1:1, makes their Wimax offering a tad expensive – which is expected of Mweb I suppose….
 
192Kbps, so not really broadband by current deffinitions and I wonder if there is a cap limit, the economist article did not mention it? Unfortunately It seems that once providers find a way of circumventing Telkom forthe last mile charges they decide to put that profit into their pockets rather than passing it on to the consumer, although some may pay lip service and give a 10-15% reduction. Its all about what the market will bear, and boy do we bear a lot.
