Gears Of War on XB360

Hi guys. i am on the endge to buy XB360 just for the game.

But there is one thing that i need to know before i go for the plunge..

Unlike a PC where USB keyboard and mouse key can be freely assigned. i always had the problem on PS2 that you can use USB KB and Mouse but you could never assign the key to YOUR need. can this be done on GOW on XB360?

ie. if i want mouse button one to use jump and not fire ......
 
Keyboard and mouse doesnt work in all games dont know if it will work in GOW.

Just play with the controller its already very easy configured so you wont have any trouble with it.
 
You're going to want to use the controller for GOW. . . .

I have my main PC & xbox360 on a KVM switch, so I always try to see if xbox responds to any keyboard or mouse input. So far none of the games I've played (GoW, PGR3 & Oblivion) see either of them. The xbox360's Dashboard does utilise the keyboard fully (e.g. arrow keys to move panes, enter & backspace to go up & down menus, text dialog input etc.), however again the mouse is totally ignored.

Wish MS & the games developers would take kbd/mse into consideration, it would make the transition from PC much easier for some (like me). Never the less even tho I struggled badly to get accustomed to the controller, it was worth it to play GoW, its that good.

I read somewhere once that they actively discourage developers allowing a kbd or mouse.

Basically they say if everyone is using a controller then we have a very nice level playing field, once keyboards and mouse are allowed then the playing field is no longer even. So if the kbd and mouse are much better for GoW then the normal plebs like myself would stop playing online because the game would just be impossible and I have no intention of giving up my wireless controller for a kbd again.

I don't see them allowing a kbd and mouse for gaming anytime soon. Yet the PS3 plans on doing it and I think it will ruin their infantile online service. The amount of hardcore gamers on Live! is minute compared to the normal gamers.

The normal guys are the bread and butter, M$ know they must keep them happy.
 
Exactly how does aiming with the analog work? Does the gun move with movements of the analog? What if you hold the analog up and let it go so it springs back to center. Does your view/aiming reticule jumps back to the center of the screen? What if you need to shoot something behind you very quickly?:D
 
The reticule doesn't go back to the centre when you let go of the analogue stick. It's a little (quite a lot actually) slower to turn around behind you than with a keyboard/mouse
 
I must agree that keyboard and mouse is better for FPS. Notwithstanding this fact, it is possible to enjoy a console controller in FPS.
 
Keyboard and Mouse is better for FPS. thats why, as a previosue poter pointed out, it's deliberately not supported.

Personally I think that this is a good design decision. The power of the console is in having it set up in your (TV Room). So you have your big ass TV screen and a couch in front of it. Then you get to kindof half sit / lie down on the couch, feet up on the coffee table, (assorted snacks lying on the couch next to you) and play. The controller is designed to be used in this way. A mouse and keyboard are desinged to be used at a desk, in a (semi) upright position. So suddenly you have to sit up and have some sort of table in front of you? Then why bother with a console. Just use a PC.

Gears of War is the most fun FPS I ever played. after an hour or two, the controller became second nature. I'm not as good on it as on mouse / keyboard, but I have been playing using that combo since the mid 1990s. But the controller is really a non issue for me now.
