need advice on flashing my useless telkom router

I've recently had my telkom-branded ADSL WiFi router break down on me.. i had tried to update the firmware via the browser administration; the page had timed out on me and then the router lost it's ability to connect to the internet entirely. It still works as a 4-port hub, but obviously that's not much help..

so i'm assuming it's a matter of flashing the chip... it wasn't under warranty so I cracked it open and discovered the chipset is a Conexant CX82310-24... there is compatible firmware existing on the net, but now I can't even find my router's ip address to be able to telnet to it! When I plug it in it assigns my two LAN pcs addresses with a prefix of 169.254.x.x, i've used Angry IP Scanner to look through the entire 169.254.x.x range to see if I might find it there but no joy. I've tried looking at 10.0.0.2, nothing... the reset button doesn't seem to work either

so would some patient individual have some good advice, or should I admit defeat and start digging in my wallet

The problem probably is in the name "Telkom Branded". Id try take it back to one of their shops and see if you can get a new 1. It might be a good idea to get a new Router, maybe not from telkom either.

But thats my opinion. Good luck is all i can say!

boot into windows with your network cable unplugged, then plug it in and run netstat from the command prompt, it should show you the ip of what its connecting to.. i think

hrm check the marconi site, i don't know about marconi firmware recovery but hopefully its possible. My firends d-link 504T got messed up completely, no ip even.. and we recoved it/updated to the latest firmware(via lan/ethernet nogal).. so it might be possible.

Yah if its under warrentee take it back

Many times pushing a reset button in for say 30 secs, or pressing it in and holding it in while powering up and then releasing after say 5 secs, will get a device to reset itself to factory default.

did you not get a cd with it.there is software on the cd to flash the eprom.
