Today we got a call from some dude saying that we're sharing a phone line with him, or something. So we phoned Telkom and they told us to phone back on Monday.

So I phone the house line from my cell and a busy tone. I try dial out from the house phone and get "Please enter your pin code and press hash" and that's it. I don't know what that means, maybe it's a prepaid thing?

ADSL still works, I started downloading some email stuff at 52kb/s .. odd.. so I check the router and we've been upgraded to 512/256.

It certainly seems like they've budged up somewhere, perhaps switched our line with someone elses? I just hope we don't have to pay for anything!!!

Well, I'll enjoy the speed upgrade while it's here.. who knows, maybe they'll leave it and bill us for 384.

I got a R12 000 and something bill a while ago.
Mostly international calls.
I have call barring to international calls, that I pay for!
They would or could not log a dispute unless my account is paid in full.
Went to the bank.
Begged and pleaded and got a 10 grand "short term" extended overdraft.
Paid Telkom.
Logged the dispute.
Took 9 weeks!
Bank Manager now phoning twice a day.
Eventually Telkom admits they made a mistake!
Very happy.
Phoned Bank manager; he very happy.
Phoned wife; she very happy.
Realized Telkom has not got my account number.
Phoned Telkom.
And again.
And Again.
Many many times.
Eventually got someone that speaks English.
They will call back.
No.
They never call back.
Long story short, they CREDITED my Telkom account with R10 285-67!
The system does not allow them to pay directly, they can only credit my account.
Phoned wife, she not happy.
Phoned Manager, he REALLY not happy.
Took out 3rd mortgage on house.

Telkom very happy.
Manager sort of happy.
Wife not happy.
When wife not happy, me not happy!

That has gotto be the most crazy Telkom story ever! It seems that there is no limit to the new levels they will got to rape, steal and abuse.

just unbelievable.

I was gonna say wow R10k credit will take a while to work its self out .. not :( bills are usually R500-700 so thats.. under 20months.

holy cow - thats rough! i'd go and see a lawyer. Its going to take years for you to use up that credit!

It will take me about 14 months yes.
Without interest.
But I pay interest on my 3rd bond.

You think they don't have lawyers?
They will drag the case out and bankrupt you.

Somehow we need to get the media to get hold of this story. It's the only reason for Telkom to do anything - bad publicity

Well this morning our line is back to normal.. syncin' at 384 down but now only 128 up, used to be 192.

*mutter*

Bond your home to pay your Telkom Bill!!!

@Rikus

That is extortion. You are forced to pay for a service you never used in order to avoid suspension of your telephone.

I am so sorry to hear your experience. You and your wife must be very frustrated? The extra 12K you took out on your Bond is going to cost you even more than the initial 12K in the end because of interest on your bond etc.
Unless your Telkom Account is going to use up that 12K in less than 6 or 8 months I would log a dispute with the CEO of Telkom to get it back with interest.
That really is nonsense.
Telkom owes you the instalments on the 12K at the interest rate of your Bond.
What about the inconvenience and the phone calls you made to Telkom to try and rectify the position.

Am I right in saying that you will never forget this experience?
Have you posted a complaint on Hellopeter?

yeah - i wouldn't take this lying down either. contact icasa, the media, hellopeter and anyone else you can think of. It ridiculous you should pay for something that is their problem. with you paying it off via your bond you will most likely end up paying double.

Personally I think that the story has been stretched out a bid because NO ONE and I mean NO ONE, would take this lying down.

Rikus, wake up and smell the roses, telkom, with or without lawyers have no alternative but to reimburse you immediately with interest.

In court, you will win the case (there is no case, Telkom will settle out of court but, they will push it to the limits, they will try and break you but, that they already managed to do, you have already given up)

Consult a lawyer and sue them with costs, if you don't do it, is cause the case, is/was like I said, stretched out a bit.

Thats my opinion.

That's a cellphone block, you probably tried to make an outgoing call to a cell number? We've got that, so I'd know :p ;)

Nah, I had the same message when phoning another landline.

They've sorted it out now. sorta..
