Web Authring sw for mac

Hi Guys

I am looking for software to do web editing. Dreamweaver is out as it costs too much. Preferably a cheapish solution or even free will be excellent. I update a current website for charity so I don't want to spend an arm and a leg on software. It would be very nice if I could get s/w that can import an existing site - which I am doing with Frontpage :sick: - I know everyone hates it but I know it and it works for me so don't slate me on that.
 
Have a look at RapidWeaver and SandVox. They use lots of CSS, so you can do pretty much anything.
But I think you'll have to start from scratch with your site... which may not be a bad thing if it is in Frontpage.:)

Thanks for the input -

I have looked at NVu and it seems to work - just worried that it has not been updated since 2005. Have loaded FP in XP under parallels at this stage till I have some time to redo the whole site. Damnnnn FP is just so easy!! But maybe its cause I know it reasonable well and not in the mood to learn a new package at this stage.
*mental note - must redo site someday*
 
iWeb (part of iLife) is also fun and easy for creating a quick site.

FP is just nasty. There's no other way of saying it that wont be censored by vBulletin.

I have looked at iWeb and it seems to be a little too rigid in what you want to achieve. Do you not need a .Mac subscition or can one publish to other servers as well? I was under the impression it only works with .mac.

That said, am busy downloading rapidweaver - will test its functionality and maybe redo my site... if it works, I don't mind paying the $40.

Just don't know why everyone says FP is crap - it works for me.....:confused:
have heard that it inflates the page size by putting unecessary code in the page but the pages I do are loading fine.
 
Publish where you wish no .mac required. :)
 
If Nvu is too old, try Kompozer. Fixes a lot of bugs in Nvu.

I use it for my site. I am currently reworking the whole thing with it since the old style is a little gay and busy. :( New one will be much simpler in style.

Also, try OSWD if you need a new design. There is lots in there in HTML, CSS, etc.

What sort of web authoring do you want to do exactly? Things like portals and blog systems make it possible to have a website without much coding/design savvy.
 
Give it a bash, I use it for all my web/bash/c++ programming. Very clean and very simple. It was part of the Mac Heist bundle a little while ago too

Was tempted to go for that bundle but I let some of those disheartened with the organisers put me off :o

Doing a website for a church. I use frames :sick: with javascipt menu structure at present. Gave Dreamweaver a bash but after struggling for 20 min just to create a new page that links to a new menu item, I deleted it.

Reverted to Frontpage running under parallels... 'if it aint broke - why fix it?' But I will look at the other options on this page.
The free ones are just little too basic for me. :cool:

When you look up the term 'broke' in the dictionary they should show you picture of frontpage - IMO it generates nasty code.
