Telkom line speeds

ok thanx, so buying a 387bps account is a better choice...hopefully

Will probably happen around August, they usually adjust their pricing around that time of year.

i'm not expecting it to go up except when they announce it so that they don't drop prices by another R150, but just give ppl and up to 512 and drop prices by R50 [and say well we dropped it by old 512 price vs new one and screw the 384 people on a serious dsicount.. its the Telkom way ;)]

Telkom would never be ready!!
2010 is far away but it's South Africa!
How does Telkom compare to Neotel?
Neotel just n rumour?

384 will be upped to 512 for free if all goes as they said it would..

if it does happen that 512k becomes so cheap that it replace 384k how much upload speed are we going 2 loose again??:( Cos i know when 384k became cheaper and replaced 192k the 384k dsl upload speed also went down:(

If I read correctly NONE will be lost, but like I said it's Telkom so don't get your hopes up!!:(

I have to wonder about this too...
I've had a 512 line for a number of years now and the speed has been dropping slowly (but continuously) over the last year - no amount of testing/checking from the ISP or Telkom seems to help - used to get the full 64kb/s (or more sometimes) downstream when I first signed up, now I'm lucky if I get 35kb/s (even on local) - - - if this "upgrade" is going to happen, I think we'll see so much congestion that the grid will grind to a halt - if they can't get it right on 384 and 512 lines, then how the hell are they going to get it right on 1024 and 4096+ lines? As worded in their contract - they cannot guarantee the ADSL speed, so it's going to be luck of the draw...even though we're still forking out a s**t load of money for the service... well I'm certainly not looking forward to "Touching Tomorrow" !

Telkom in the process of upping all line speeds for free??

I can confirm the same. A Telkom sales person told me the following:
DSL384 upgraded to DSL512 at R245.00 per month
DSL512 upgraded to DSL1024 at R362.00 per month
DSL1024 upgraded to DSL4096 at R516.00 per month
But had no idea on the DSL192 or DSL384 prices.

I think it's got to do with the Triple Play systems that they will be marketing soon.

Imagine the strain on IS's already congested network :/

PS: Upload speeds weren't decreased when 192 users were upgraded to 384 - ok it was, but it's just that 192 users were getting unusually high upload speeds instead of the advertised 64kbps . All they did was make everybody sync at the advertised speed. Don't think we can really blame Telkom in that instance.
